ST. JOHN, USVI- St. John is poised to become the first Caribbean Island to boast a fully functioning street address system from end to end, with completion slated for January. This landmark achievement is part of the broader Street Addressing Initiative (SAI) undertaken by the USVI through the Office of the Lieutenant Governor.

Field crews contracted through the University of the Virgin Islands' Eastern Caribbean Center are currently on the ground, diligently working to install all street name signs across the island. Their efforts are coordinated from the Community Operations Center, housed in a sprung structure on the Guy Benjamin Campus in Coral Bay.

The project is fully funded through the Housing Finance Authority's Community Development Block Grant. The OLG, led by Lt. Gov. Tregenza Roach, is spearheading the initiative in partnership with the University of the Virgin Islands and the Department of Education.

Extension to St. Croix & St. Thomas

St. John's new addressing system is expected to bring numerous benefits to the community, including improved emergency response times, enhanced mail and package delivery services, and easier navigation for both residents and visitors. As the first island in the Caribbean to implement a comprehensive addressing system, St. John sets a precedent for modernization in the region. The initiative will soon extend to St. Thomas and St. Croix, further advancing infrastructure development across the territory.
