USVI: Milton E. Potter secures highest votes in senate race for STT-STJ District

CHARLOTTE AMALIE, St Thomas, USVI- Seven candidates secured positions in the Legislature of the Virgin Islands for the St Thomas-St John District when the US elections were held on Tuesday, November 5, 2024.

Milton E. Potter, with 3, 976 votes, garnered the highest number of votes in this race.

Avery L. Lewis was the only new senator elected in St Thomas, compared to two in St Croix. Mr Lewis took the seat of Senator Donna Frett-Gregory, who did not seek re-election.

2024 Unofficial Election Results for St Thomas-St John District

1. Milton E. Potter (DEM) - 3,976 votes
2. Alma Francis Heyliger (IND) - 3,872 votes
3. Dwayne M. DeGraff (IND) - 3,606 votes
4. Marvin A. Blyden (DEM) - 3,429 votes
5. Avery L. Lewis (DEM) - 3,349 votes
6. Carla Joseph (DEM) - 3,338 votes
7. Ray Fonseca (DEM) - 2,257 votes At-Large Senate Seat

Emphatic win for Stacey E. Plaskett

Meanwhile, Democratic Party candidate Stacey E. Plaskett easily retained her seat as the Delegate to the House of Representatives.

Ida Smith (1207 votes) was the second highest vote getter in the 3-person race. Republican candidate Ronald Pickard had 581 votes.

Prior to the elections, Smith was disqualified by Elections Supervisor Caroline Fawkes; however, she was allowed to remain on the ballot.

Fawkes sued the board but a Superior Court Judge on Monday, said she needed more time before making a decision about the dispute.
