USVI man with Tortola roots accused of attempted murder in Florida
Local 10 News in the US said Stevie Mc Gus Herbert, who was born in Charlotte Amalie but lives in Tamarac, confessed to firing a Smith & Wesson .38 special revolver before a bullet grazed the victim’s head, according to Broward Sheriff’s Office deputy Charles Woodnel’s arrests report.
Local 10 news added that the deputy was nearby responding to a noise complaint when Herbert fired a single shot, according to the report.
Herbert was arrested last Saturday night in Tamarac, and corrections booked him on Sunday morning at the main jail in Fort Lauderdale.
A Broward County Assistant State Attorney filed a first-degree felony case against Herbert on Monday, county records show.
Herbert is facing a charge of attempted felony murder, a non-bondable offense punishable with up to 30 years in prison.
Broward County Circuit Judge, Michael Lynch is presiding over the case.

“Upon interview, Herbert admitted to firing his weapon at the victim, claiming self-defense, stating he felt threatened.
Furthermore, Herbert reportedly told deputies that his training called for always shooting to kill, not wound, and he had every intention of killing the victim with a shot to the back of her head but only slightly missed the mark.
The victim said she attempted to communicate with Herbert but couldn’t due to the noise. After turning to walk away, she heard a gunshot and felt a blow to the back of her head. Turning around, she saw Herbert holding a firearm.“
