USVI: Man shot while driving, followed & attacked again

FREDERIKSTED, St Croix, USVI- A 27-year-old man was fatally shot at the Williams Delight intersection on the Melvin Evans Highway early Sunday morning, August 27, 2023, the [US] VI Police Department has announced.

The incident occurred at approximately 3:57 AM, as registered by the VIPD's Shot Spotter technology. Minutes later, at 4:00 AM, a relative of the victim reported him injured with gunshot wounds.

The victim, identified as Deshawn Demetrius Williams, was immediately transported to Juan F. Luis Hospital's Emergency Room via ambulance. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

A preliminary VIPD investigation revealed that Williams was driving home on Melvin Evans Highway when he was accosted by unknown assailant(s). Multiple shots were fired at him as he entered Williams Delight Road by the light. The assailant(s) continued to follow him, discharging more shots at his vehicle. Williams managed to reach his yard but collapsed on the ground shortly after exiting his vehicle.

The V.I. Police Department has stated that the investigation into this tragic case is ongoing. Authorities are currently seeking any information regarding Williams's activities during the night he was away from home.
