USVI: Fatal shooting in Bovoni marks first homicide for 2025

BOVONI, St. Thomas, USVI- Authorities are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Saturday evening in the Bovoni area of St. Thomas — the first homicide in the USVI for 2025.

According to VIPD Director of Communications Glen Dratte, on Saturday at approximately 8:13 p.m., the V.I. Police Department received an alert from the ShotSpotter system, which detected multiple gunshots in the area of Bovoni Hill Crest Road. Shortly thereafter, a 911 caller reported an unresponsive male lying on the ground at the location.

Emergency personnel and law enforcement agencies were immediately dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, officials confirmed that the individual had succumbed to his injuries. The deceased has been identified as 25-year-old Jahkeem Joseph.

Active investigation ongoing

The case is being actively investigated by the VIPD's Major Crimes Unit. Detectives are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting and to identify those responsible.

Authorities are urging anyone with information related to the incident to come forward. Individuals can contact the Major Crimes Unit at (340) 774-2211, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), or call 911.

The USVI ended 2024 with 44 homicides, 24 in St. Thomas and 20 on St. Croix.
