USVI boxer John A. Jackson arrested on rape charge
CHARLOTTE AMILE, St. Thomas, USVI — John A. Jackson, a United States Virgin Islands (USVI) boxer and son of boxing legend Julian Jackson aka ‘The Hawk’, was arrested on Tuesday, February 5, 2019, and charged with second-degree aggravated rape.
The charge came after the father of a 15-year-old minor told police that Mr Jackson had sexual intercourse with his daughter, according to USVIPD Public Information Officer, Glen Dratte in an announcement this afternoon, Thursday, February 7, 2019.
According to Mr Dratte—citing the police report— said the minor’s father reported the matter to police on Tuesday, February 5, 2019, and upon further investigation by police, the male suspect was revealed to be John A. Jackson, who the minor said had sex with her several times.
The minor also said Mr Jackson knew her age and according to police, Mr Jackson, 30, admitted to having sexual intercourse with the minor and was thereafter arrested by police and charged with second-degree aggravated rape.
Bail Granted
Unable to post bail of $75,000, Mr Jackson was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advisement hearing. Mr Dratte said the case is being investigated by the USVIPD’s Domestic Violence Unit.
Mr Jackson is a well-known boxer in the Virgin Islands and comes from a prominent family in St. Thomas. In August 2015, he won an important bout against Dennis K. Laurente of Manila in the opener of a two-match super welterweight tournament.
All three judges scored the fight 100-89. In July 2016, however, Mr Jackson was knocked out in the eighth round during a boxing match with opponent Jermell D. Charlo.
