UPDATE: Wailer & Martin wow massive crowd at Foxy's NYE event
The two performed as headline acts for the event before a large crowd which attracted hundreds of tourists and residents alike as was the case in previous years.
A brief shower failed to dampen spirits as patrons raved on through the night and into the early morning with local opening act, Volume International setting the pace for the annual event.
General Manager at Foxy’s, Mr Merus Joseph, told Virgin Islands News Online that the estimated five thousand strong audience that gathered may not have been truly representative of the wider cross section of the VI population given the line-up but he felt the show was indeed a good one.
Wailer, he felt, attracted more of an older audience while Martin entertained the younger folks. “It was a very good show. I’m quite satisfied with the turnout. People support our activities and I’m very happy for that,” Mr Joseph added.
Patrons were also treated to sounds of Maxx Cabello Jr before jamming to Bunny Wailer and later, Christopher Martin, who closed the show.

Bunny Wailer & Chris Martin to headline Foxy’s New Year’s Eve Party
GREAT HARBOUR, Jost Van Dyke, VI – Jamaican reggae superstar and legend Bunny Wailer has been billed to perform alongside dancehall sensation Christopher Martin as headline acts for the annual New Year’s eve party at Foxy’s Tamarind Bar in Great Harbour on December 31, 2013.
Wailer, an original member of the Wailers who performed with reggae icons Bob Marley and Peter Tosh, has won three Grammy awards for his 'roots reggae' music.
In an exclusive interview with Virgin Islands News Online, General Manager of Foxy’s Tamarind Bar, Mr Merus Joseph said Volume International out of St Thomas will be one of the main supporting acts for the evening’s performances.
Christopher Martin, who is also out of Jamaica, has wowed audiences for close to a decade ever since his emergence with the coveted ‘Digicel Rising Stars’ title in 2005 in his homeland. Since then he has had hits such as ‘Take My Wings’ and ‘I’ll be your driver’ among others.
There will also be added international flavour coming by way of guitarist, soulful vocalist, and prolific songwriter, Maxx Cabello Jr who hails from the San Francisco Bay area and has performed in the Virgin Islands previously.
There will also be a local band, Upfront, that is expected to perform. Tickets are expected to be on sale shortly at Bolo’s at a price of $50 and will also be available at a few outlets in the US Virgin Islands. Tickets will also be on sale on the night of the event.
“We just want it to be a party,” Mr Joseph said. “We want everybody to come be comfortable, come relax, have fun and enjoy themselves.”
