ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The US National Hurricane Centre (NHC) has said the second storm of this year’s hurricane season could form within the next 24 to 48 hours.

In an update this morning, June 28, 2024, the NHC said a tropical wave, which has been dubbed Invest 95L, is showing signs of organisation.

“Environmental conditions appear conducive for additional development, and a tropical depression or tropical storm is likely to form over the next day or two,” NHC said.

If the system develops into a tropical storm, it will be called Beryl.

Early models for the system show it could have some impact on the southern Windward Islands.

Potential threats to VI

The Department of Disaster Management (DDM) has said the system is a potential threat to the [British] Virgin Islands.

Elsewhere in the Atlantic, a tropical wave centred a few hundred miles south-southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands is producing disorganised showers and thunderstorms.

NHC said there is the possibility for some slow development of the system early next week while it moves generally westward across the central and western tropical Atlantic at 15 to 20 mph.

The Department of Disaster Management (DDM) is paying keen attention to the system and believes it could become the first hurricane of the season.

It has also been marked as a potential threat to the Virgin Islands.

DDM alerts of 'first possible threat' to the VI

A westward-moving tropical wave in the Atlantic could potentially develop close to the eastern Caribbean, the Department of Disaster Management (DDM) alerted on June 26, 2024.

Residents are being encouraged to pay keen attention to upcoming updates.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) National Weather Service forecasters at the Climate Prediction Center predict above-normal hurricane activity in the Atlantic basin this year.

NOAA’s outlook for the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season, which spans from June 1 to November 30, predicts an 85% chance of an above-normal season, a 10% chance of a near-normal season and a 5% chance of a below-normal season.

The season's first storm, Tropical Storm Alberto, formed in the western Gulf of Mexico on June 19 before quickly sliding into Mexico, bringing storm surge flooding and heavy rain.

it is you same ungrateful people who would blast the same DDM if they don't send out a siren warning. From since when the weather report can't be given to people with bad hearts. It is no problem when the sun hot and when the rain fall.
Storms were coming before September 2017 and they will keep coming. Fear isn't going to slow them down. Set of cowards
