ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The BVI Tourist Board and Film Commission (BVITB&FC) has revealed the three finalists of the slogan competition for the 70th Virgin Islands Emancipation Festival.

The finalists were voted by the public via an online platform.

The top 3 slogans are:

  1. Embrace the Beat; Feel the Heat: Virgin Islands’ 70th, where Culture and Fun meet!
  2. Celebrate our freedom and Live in Unity, As BVI Festival turns 70!
  3. A milestone to explore and our culture to adore, BVI Festival celebration, 2024

Residents can now vote for their choice of the top slogan, with voting closing on Friday, April 19, 2024.

The winning slogan will be unveiled on Friday, April 26.

Top 3 slogans for 70th VI Emancipation Festival to be revealed on Monday

On Monday, April 15, 2024, the public will know which are the three finalists for the slogan competition for the 70th Virgin Islands Emancipation Festival.

A total of 70 slogans were submitted to the BVITBFC by the deadline of March 15. Following this, a panel of team members from the BVI Tourist Board "meticulously reviewed" the entries and selected the eight finalists.

Voting for the three finalists began on Monday, April 8, 2024, and closed on Friday, April 12.

When the top three picks are announced on Monday, April 15, 2024, residents will then vote for their choice of the top slogan, with voting closing on Friday, April 19.

The winning slogan will be unveiled on Friday, April 26.

Below are the slogans that made the Top 8:

  1. Remembering our History as we celebrate 70! A display of Culture like never before, for Virgin Islands Festival, 2024.
  2. Embrace the Beat; Feel the Heat: Virgin Islands’ 70th, where Culture and Fun meet!
  3. It’s a platinum jubilee like never before, Virgin Islands 70th, Festival 2024.
  4. Vibrancy, Traditions and Culture Galore, for the 70th Virgin Islands Festival, 2024.
  5. A milestone to explore and our culture to adore, BVI Festival celebration, 2024.
  6. Celebrate our freedom and Live in Unity, As BVI Festival turns 70!
  7. Live the Moment, Experience the Energy, As BVI Festival turns 70.
  8. Culture and Fete Galore for Virgin Islands Festival, 2024

The tradition of public competitions for selecting slogans and themes for the BVI Emancipation Festival started in the early 1980s as a means of engaging community-wide participation in this aspect of the festival.

According to the BVITB&FC, this year is not only the 70th BVI Emancipation Festival but also the 190th anniversary of the abolition of slavery in the British Virgin Islands, "so a grand celebration is in store."

    The slogan need to be consistent with the name of the emancipation celebration.
