ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – A third person has now been charged in connection with the murder of David Springette.

In a Police Press Release issued today July 31 2017, it named Essadro Jefferson, 23, as the third person. Jefferson was charged at Her Majesty’s Prison with conspiracy to murder Springette.

The 23-year-old is presently on remand at HM Prison and will appear in the Magistrate’s Court to face his additional charge at a later date.

Meanwhile, conspiracy to murder was also added to the two charges of murder and one charge of attempted murder filed on Friday July 28, 2017 against both Shakeel Ryan, a 22-year-old male national of St. Kitts and Shakilla Hanley, a 29-year-old female, in the deaths of David Springette and Shawn Richards.

Ryan and Hanley appeared before the Magistrate’s Court this afternoon and were placed on remand.

See previous article published July 28, 2017

A Kittitian national and a female have been charged with the murders of David Springette and Shawn H. Richards who were killed earlier this year.

The two are Shakeel Ryan, 22, a St. Kitts national and a female, Shakilla Hanley, 29, both of Long Look.

In addition, both of them were also charged with a separate count of attempted murder in the case of David Springette.

The duo is currently in police custody awaiting their day in court.

In a press release issued by the Police Information Department, Commissioner of Police Michael Matthews said he is grateful for the painstaking, dedicated teamwork that went into making the arrests.

“It is very difficult to resist the temptation to response and defend the Force when those in the community give commentary on its actions or inactions particularly those who see murders solved in the hour span of a prime time TV show. However, compiling the evidence to bring perpetrators of gun crimes in particular murderers to justice takes a lot longer than an hour and requires a great deal more effort. Very few appreciate or understand the difference. In these types of investigations, unfortunately, the least said, the better for us," Mr Matthews commented.

The Commissioner also commended members of the Major Crime Team for their dedication on this case and all other cases.

Shawn Richards was shot outside his residence in Long Look on the evening of May 6, 2017. Richards succumbed to his injuries on May 8, 2017. Meanwhile, David Springette was also shot outside the Wayside Bar in Fat Hogs Bay on the evening of June 21, 2017. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Springette had survived two earlier attempts made on the life.

@ BRAD BOYNES: You are 100% correct. She IS a St.Kitts national. It is a fact that she WAS NOT born here. But makes no difference. The police charged her because they have sufficient evidence to do so. Now let's wait for the trial.

I commend the hard working officers. People once you are charged, there must be some kind of evidence. Say what you want, but I am happy that arrest has been made. The cops are dedicated to the task and more arrest would be made in short order. Thanks for the new eyes of the Scotland Yard.

It is understood that the young man has a criminal record in St Kitts. Why was he successful in obtaining a work permit. The Immigration Department is a huge failure where this is concern Chief Immigration Officers after Chief Immigration Officers ignored the fact that the current system being used is antiquated and they never made an attempt to toss it out and get and up-to- date system. Thousand of dollars are being spend to maintain the antiquated system. Other failures that I may point out the absent of an Immigration Office at Port Purcell, having the Surveillance Officers putting themselves in precarious position when they venture out on special operations, While the other Law Enforcement Agencies are well suited for the task at hand. The absent of proper Legislation to govern the Sea and Air Carriers the has abuse Officers decades after decades.
Chief Immigration Officers focuses on an Officer arriving to work late, an Officer not signing the time register or signing off on Leave application and there are far more critical issues facing the department that they have failed to embrace and implement so the department can move forward and Office can see a career there. A very immense failure the past and present Chief Immigration Officers were. They were managers not leaders.
On the other hand the BVI Government need to put VISA RESTRICTION on the Kittitians.

I have traveled all over the Caribbean and the only place I have ever had any drama was in SKB, not once, not twice but many times and for those of you who will be offended by my words I was born to and raised by SKB an parent.

The two most violent years in the VI, SKB individuals were involved or alleged to be involved in Multiple murders.

It doesn't take much to change the fabric of a country I am old enough to remember a time when you could leave your doors to your home unlock, leave cash in your car unlock FACTS!!!!

Well well well look at what we have here. Three suspects brought in. According to the first article, the first two were brought in on evidence but the reason for the third hasn't been stated. Is it because they couldn't find him until today or is it that they talked? I don't swear for nobody because I didn't feel that one of the persons were capable but now they have a third person, it look like somebody had to talk somewhere. If you weren't in it, how would you know to to talk. I'm just asking a questions because I don't talk what I don't know. It's something to consider. Let's think about this people. I hope she's not apart of this because she's responsible for those kids left behind.

ignorant seed and ignorant fruit will you pick. The children will miss mom, but they will be fine. The greater question remains, how will they be raised to avert similar mental constructs as the parents. That's where the responsibility of other family and community members challenge is. Their maturity into responsible, productive intelligent adults is where the community's efforts should be focused now. We, who know better should now step up and help raise those children, by showing, teaching and giving them alternative life styles to ignorant ones.

I believe if a young man that age is looking to migrate to the BVI there should be background checksssssssss conducted and lotsssssss of questions asked. If he did not come to attend college, what the hell he has to contribute to this society. Does he hold a masters degree or has special skills needed in the BVI?
