ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Police Officer Glen Callwood expressed that the Magistrate’s Court issued a fair decision considering all that transpired with his reprieve today, February 6, 2014.

After a decision was handed down that he compensate the VC in the amount of $100, Callwood said the ordeal had impacted him and his family but he thanked God almighty for allowing him to hold a still head through everything.

He also thanked his wife and his attorney, Stephen Daniels for standing by his side throughout his court case.

Rather than being bitter about his situation though, Callwood said he would ask God to bless the persons that stood against him. “I will see how the cookie crumbles,” he added.

He expressed that he was prepared to go back to do his work, something that he loved and did with a passion.

Callwood also expressed concern about persons saying that he never gives any breaks while executing his duties as a traffic cop and noted that although he attempts to be impartial in doing his work, he gives persons plenty of breaks all the time.

During mitigation which preceded sentencing, the defence presented two character witnesses today, Rev. Robert Wright and Marvin ‘MB’ Blyden who both gave glowing reports about Callwood.

Meanwhile, Magistrate Dr. Velon John in handing down his verdict, noted that the entire matter stemmed from a stupid and foolish prank. He described the dynamics of the relationship between the defendant and VC as one which entailed some amount of taunting but said the genesis of their relationship was not disclosed during the trial.

John said the VC could have very likely reported the matter to a senior officer when the incident occurred and noted that it took place in front of three or four persons and not before a larger audience.

Callwood’s touch on the VC’s crotch, he argued, was not as painful as the VC would have the court believe, otherwise he might have been on the ground in pain.

“There was no lingering caress, just a touch,” Magistrate John insisted. Instead, he said, what we have are two grown up, grey headed men behaving like children.

“All he had to do was walk across the yard to a superior officer,” he added.

Magistrate John urged the two men to grow up and behave like grown-ups and stop behaving like children, “…assume the responsibilities that would reflect your maturity as an adult,” he added.

He told the packed courtroom that the Virgin Islands needs its Supercop given his famed reputation and said good police make harmonious living possible in society.

“There is a patent need for a team of super cops,” Magistrate John stated while acknowledging that the impact of Callwood's imprisonment on his family would be devastating.

However, while noting that the duty of an officer is to uphold the statutes and also to serve and protect, Magistrate John also stated, “Police personify the law but are not above the law.”

He challenged the two men and said while referring to each of them “…if you are a man and you are a man, then you will shake hands and move on with your life.”

Magistrate John also noted that it was important for Callwood to return to his job and in this vein noted that no conviction would be recorded against him as this would have essentially ended his career as a Police Officer.

Super Cop to be sentenced today, Feb. 6

- defence expected to file appeal against guilty verdict

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Interdicted Police Officer Glen Callwood aka Super Cop is expected to be sentenced today, February 6, 2014 after recently being found guilty of indecent assault.

Magistrate Dr Velon John ruled on January 29, 2014 that he did not find any fundamental differences in the testimony given by the prosecution’s witnesses and argued that they all presented identical versions of the incident even though a considerable amount of time had elapsed since its occurrence.

John said he did not think they were capable of concocting the story against Callwood over such lengthy period of time, without it being void of discrepancies.

Magistrate John had also ruled that he found one of the defence’s witness who testified to be economical with the truth although he expressed that the witness had appeared to demonstrate more cognitive ability than the prosecution’s witnesses.

Meanwhile, Callwood’s attorney Mr Stephen Daniels has promised to appeal the verdict issued against his client. The maximum penalty for the offence of indecent assault before the Magistrates' Court is a term of five years in prison.

"The VC in turn, told Callwood that he forgave him for the act and expected similar pranks to stop"...So all of a sudden it was a prank, what a price to pay for "a prank". Imagine the amount of violations on the roadways that have gone untouched for the time Supa been out from work, not to mention the mud this man name has been smeared in....all because of a prank!

Are you really suggesting that a man who is now a convicted sex offender is suitable for the police force. Appeal maybe, but let's wait and see. Sex offenders are not welcome, born here, or not .

Oh hell, the ting start. If he wasn't bad before this matter he will be worse now. No surprise he out though, treasury brokes & he was the one & only officer building it up. I bet since he been off the road the amt of $ that was coming in dropped & they notice it so of course they need their enforcer back on the streets.

I am so happy that Police Officer Callwood could return to work; just hope that the Head of Traffic have enough common sense to put him back on the Beat. I truly believe that if he was on the beat and not taken off for CRAP the young men we lost on those bikes may have been alive today. Also Mr. Callwood was the one cop who insisted on parents buckling up their children in car seats etc. Truth be told we need more traffic officers like Mr. Callwood. Many people were offended because of the way he carried out his duties but like I said we need more traffic cops like him instead of some of these jokers we have walking the streets. He enforced the law and in doing so he protected what people hold most dear..LIFE
