Speaking with the media after being crowned, Searles said she was very confident that the crown was her's again this year and she is well set for the July 2013 competition scheduled for Tortola when she intends to do two songs; 'Great Controversy' and 'So They'.
She said the motivation behind her two songs were centred around, "people laughing in your face and they don't really mean what they say" and Face of Poverty is about things not being like it use to be in the olden days but a situation when one labours and is not paid adequately.
With the calypso 'Shame' and Cost of Living', Lester Fortelio 'Mighty Leh - Leh cop the 1st runner up prize, 'SOS' and 'All Night Long' got Reuben Henry aka 'King Henry' the 2nd runner up prize while doing his pieces 'Get Up and Heal Yourself' and 'Exposed on Facebook', Reynold Phillips aka 'King Paido got the 3rd runner up prize.
Reddo did an amazing job at entertaining the crowd with his costumes, especially during his second performance doing his song 'Hurricane Sandy'. It would have been an undoubtedly unfair judging if he didn't win the prize for the most entertaining performance. His costume for that piece was Reddo in his usual red outfit but this time it was all covered with a variety of under wear and other clothing.
The competition this year say the participation of six calypsonians whose songs ranged from the issues of the hardship faced by employees who are under paid to that of domestic violence.
Former Calypso Monarch King Henry, while doing his song SOS, alluded to the hardship of workers not getting paid for their labour. Came out all dressed as a labourer pushing his wheel barrow, had no reserve in naming Mosquito Island, Little Dix as alleged culprits and appealed to the Ministers to investigate incidents of workers labour rights being violated.
The slogan this year was 'We welcome you to our festivity as we showcase our accountability, through cultural eyes of transparency for festival 2013 in Virgin Gorda'.
