VI defeats Grenada to advance in ECVA 2022 Women’s C'ship semi’s

-to face St. Maarten next for place in Gold or Bronze medal game

Team Virgin Islands have advanced in volleyball action of the Eastern Caribbean Volleyball Association (ECVA) Senior Women’s Tournament currently being held in Phillipsburg, Sint Maarten, from October 12-17, 2022

VI advanced to the ECVA Women’s Championships semifinals after beating Greanda this morning, October 15, 2022 & will face hosts, St. Maarten, tonight for a place in the gold or bronze medal game, after a straight set 25-23, 25-15 & 25-15 victory over Grenada

Antigua defeated the day before

In a high-energy game yesterday against Antigua, the Observer reported that it took two hours and 26 minutes before BVI and Antigua and Barbuda could be separated in the first five-setter of the tournament, with the VI taking full points.

Middle blocker for the BVI, Shoranda Pickering, proved to be a thorn in the sides of the Antigua and Barbuda players as she picked up six kills, six blocks and six aces on her way to gathering 26 points to lead the BVI.

VI coach Stephen Payne was understandably overjoyed at the team’s victory in the heated battle.

“I am extremely pleased with the way the girls performed tonight. Like I predicted... we will defeat Antigua and we came out with the victory. There were times where service errors plagued us, but that was fixed and the girls soldiered on,” he said.
