UPDATE: Runaway driver was allegedly caught hiding in bushes
Police were able to recover a loaded firearm, cash, and marijuana after a search of the vehicle, a Ford Taurus, which was left with a lone occupant after the driver made off.
This news site can confirm that the two occupants of the vehicle are a 23-year-old Guyanese and a 33-year-old Vincentian.
Driver 'suspiciously' switched lanes
According to senior sources within the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF), police stopped the vehicle when they noticed the driver had suspiciously switched lanes in an attempt to avoid a police stop and search in the heart of Road Town, just after 11:00am on Tuesday, April 28, 2020.
The driver, a Guyana national, got out of the car and ran. He was reportedly chased by police and later found hiding in the bushes at John’s Hole.
The Vincentian left in the vehicle was questioned and searched.
Police allegedly found over $8,000 cash and over 13 grams of cannabis in his pocket.
A loaded pistol was reportedly found under a mat on the passenger side of the motor car.
The homes of the two men were also reportedly searched but nothing illegal was found.
The two remain in police custody.
It is unclear if any charges have been laid as yet.

2 arrested for load firearm & 'weed' following traffic stop in RT

A traffic stop over seatbelt in Road Town by ranks of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) resulted in the recovery of a loaded firearm this morning, April 28, 2020.
According to reports reaching Virgin Islands News Online, two males are now in custody.
Our newsroom was told by sources close to the situation that a small quantity of marijuana was also discovered during the vehicle search.
Vehicle was stopped for seatbelt violation!
Reports are that police stopped a vehicle after it was noted seatbelts were not being worn by its occupants.
Once the vehicle was stopped; however, the driver allegedly took off running, leaving the passenger in the vehicle.
Upon inspection, police allegedly found an automatic rifle under the passenger seat.
The arrests were confirmed by Police Information Officer, Akia L. Thomas.
"I can confirm the arrest of two males in road town after 11:00am this morning after being intercepted by police. Investigations are ongoing into this matter," Ms Thomas said.
