SAINT-DENIS, Paris, France- Virgin Islands sprinter Rikkoi A.R. Brathwaite has bowed out of the Olympic Games in Paris with an 8th-place finish in his Semi-final race today, Sunday, August 4, 2024.

Brathwaite, who is the first male Virgin Islander to reach the semi-final of the 100m at any Olympic Games, clocked 10.15. He has a Personal Best of 10.03 in the 100m.

The Semi-final race was won by Oblique Seville of Jamaica in 9.81. Second was USA's Noah Lyles in 9:83 while third was Great Britain's Louie Hinchliffe in 9.97.

Only the top two athletes in each semi-final advanced as Automatic Qualifiers.

Rikkoi A. R Brathwaite into Track & Field 100m Semis @ Paris Olympics

The British Virgin Island’s (BVI) Rikkoi A. R Braithwaite ran his way into the Men’s 100m Semis of the 2024 Paris Olympics with a qualifying time of 10.13 seconds coming in third in Round 1 Heat 6 at the Stade de France on Saturday, August 3, 2024. 

This is Brathwaite’s Olympic debut and the BVI’s first male to advance to the 100m Semis at an Olympic Games. 

He will compete in the Men’s 100m Semi-Final 1 running in Lane 2 at 2:05 p.m. BVI time on Sunday, August 4, 2024 at the Stade de France. 

The current Olympic record holder for this event is Usain S. Bolt with 9.63 seconds which he ran at the 2012 London Olympics. 

Brathwaite is one of three BVI Olympians competing in Track and Field at the 2024 Olympics in Paris. Adeajah T. Hodge will compete in the Women's 200m Round 1 on Sunday, August 4, 2024 while Kyron A. McMaster will compete in the Men's 400M Round 1 on Monday, August 5, 2024. Both races will also take place at the Stade de France. 

The BVI's other Olympian sailor Thad A. Lettsome, who placed 2nd in the second day of racing in the Men's Dinghy ILCA7 on Friday, August 2, 2024.

    @Thim. I was expecting someone to post a negative comment. First of all, I must congratulate Rikkoi for being selected to participate in this year's Olympic in Paris. There are many athletes who attend the games and did not win a medal. For instance, two of Jamaica's top athletes participated in the first heat of their respective event and did well. However, they withdrew from the second the second heat. What was important for Rekkoi, is that he qualified in the first heat and advanced to the second heat. We need to support our people and the Territory so that we will have better results in the future.

    Just ignore the one negative comments generally but in reality this look for a job talk is nonsense when the government invests in its self-employed Citizens. Some people don't sit and wait for a job they employ themselves but still have to watch the politriks play favorites and offer vague statements of support.
