MIAMI, Florida, USA – The Virgin Islands delegation led by Premier Andrew A. Fahie (R1) has arrived in Miami Florida for the 2022 Seatrade Cruise Global Conference this week, April 25 to April 28, 2022.

An update from Premier Fahie has indicated that the delegation is comprised of Minister for Transportation and Works, Hon Kye M. Rymer (R5), Junior Minister for Tourism Hon. Sharie B. de Castro, along with Dr Carolyn O'Neal Morton, who is the Permanent Secretary in the Premier's Office.

Other persons making up the delegation include officials from the BVI Tourist Board, BVI Ports Authority, and Cyril B. Romney Tortola Pier Park.

According to the Premier, the day was kicked off with an internal meeting with the team ahead of the event which will see some 500 exhibitors sharing the very latest in cruise tech, design, and services from the show floor.

Ahead of the meetings, the Premier during an April 22, 2022, press conference said his delegation will try to ‘shore up ‘ VI’s cruise tourism even further and will report on the results of the conference on his return.

No complacency in VI - Premier

The Premier reminded that the VI must not be complacent, as there is always room for improvement and that the territory can keep finding ways to further enhance visitor experience.

He pointed to the return of the Virgin Gorda Easter Festival after two years of absence and noted that the events resulted in hotels, guest homes, car rentals and even private homes and vehicles being booked out.

“I wish to congratulate the Virgin Gorda Festival sub-committee and the Virgin Islands Festival and Fairs Committee, and the Minister of Culture and his team and all the other stakeholders, for their outstanding work in reviving the Easter Festival in Virgin Gorda, and keeping our culture alive,” he added.

Premier Fahie attending 2022 SeaTrade Cruise Global Conference in Miami this week

Noting that the Virgin Islands’ tourism product is very strong, in high demand and enjoys confidence; however, the territory must not become complacent, Premier and Minister of Finance Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1) has said he will be attending the Florida Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA) 2022 Seatrade Cruise Global Conference in Miami, Florida this week.

The Seatrade Cruise Global Conference will be held from April 25 to April 28, 2022, at Miami Beach Convention Centre and will bring together visionaries, experts, and thousands of like-minded cruise professionals for business and networking.

According to Florida Ports Council, some 500 exhibitors will be looking forward to sharing the very latest in cruise tech, design, and services from the show floor.

Premier Fahie, during a press conference on Friday, April 22, 2022, said he will be leading a delegation to the Seatrade Cruise Global Conference “so that we can shore up our cruise tourism even further.

“As a result, I will be absent from the Territory from Monday, 25 April, 2022, for a few days. I will report on the SeaTrade on my return.”

‘Our tourism product is in high demand’ Premier Fahie

Premier Fahie also stated that over the last several months there has been a tremendous increase in activity through the territory’s air and sea ports, “both commercial and private entities, as well as domestic and international travellers.”

According to the premier, all VI’s harbours and marinas are experiencing a significant upsurge in business.

“This is a testament to the measures put in place by your Government in our phased and managed reopening and re-energising of our economy during the pandemic, and our overall efforts to continue to grow our tourism product and our economy.

“This is also proof that our tourism product is very strong, is in high demand and enjoys confidence. At the same time, however, we must not become complacent, as there is always room for improvement, and we must keep finding ways to further enhance visitor experience.”

See, that is the thing I don’t understand about most people. So because he is bringing few or more Cruise ships into the territory that guarantee him a easy win? PLEASE STOP.

Sadly it doesn't seem like the minister for tourism understands that the cruiseships contribute the very least to our Tourism than any other segment of Tourism. But boasting like getting more cruiseships is an accomplishment. Meanwhile you are killing the most lucrative segment of Tourism which is the yachting and charters. We can't hear any positive news about what is being done to increase charters and attract more bareboats and crewed charter yacht companies. Going on 4 years later and Prospect Reef is still a disaster zone with hotels and resorts being the next biggest segment of Tourism. No new hotels or resorts. But every minute bragging about cruiseships. Pure folly.

Look those reps of the BVI wearing masks in maskless Florida, never were masks mandated in Florida. Wow if they are going to spend their time hiding behind their masks, forgetabout business from CS, CS mostly have stopped mandating masks for months now. How embarrassing. . . did they wear them on the airplane too, oh oh except for when they were eating and drinking.. . which for most of them probablywas ALL THE TIME.

Still an indoor mask mandate here. And it’s a good thing, because Covid cases have been on the rise again.

Masks work now? Covid never stopped and the whole world was wearing masks.

If Covid cases are on the rise with the mandate still in place, then obviously masks don't work, so get rid of them.
