UPDATE: Preliminary Voter’s List posted – SOE Juliette Penn
There were also reports that the printing of the Preliminary Voters Lists were delayed due to a printer problem, however, speaking to this news site last evening, Penn denied that there were any delays with regard to the printing of the list or any such. She said that everything was on schedule according to the original timelines.
“We did not have any difficulty with printing our list. It was up since Saturday evening May 9, 2015,” she said.
“It was posted from Saturday evening but with Saturday and Sunday being non-working days we started the four days inspection from today Monday so that everybody could have a a fair chance. People would not have seen it on Saturday. People would not have seen it on Monday either but they knew it was supposed to be available to the public today,” said Penn.
“Today included…from today until Thursday,” said Penn, indicating that this is the period during which Claims and Objections to the list will be entertained.
“After Thursday you can’t send in any more Claims and Objections,” she said. Penn said too that the final voter’s list will come out sometime next week.
Polling day in the Virgin Islands is June 8, 2015.

'Flood of persons registering to vote'- SOE Juliette Penn
- voters' registration ends today May 5, 2015 @ 4:30pm
ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Supervisor of Elections (SOE) Juliette Penn has confirmed that registration for elections which heightened yesterday May 4, 2015 ends today May 5, 2015 at 4:30pm and that the Claims and Objections period will end sometime during next week.
Speaking with this news site yesterday, Penn said the Preliminary Voters’ List goes up on Friday May 8, 2015.
She said that after four days with the necessary corrections being made during the Claims and Objections period, the revised list will be publicised.
“The Preliminary List goes up on Friday. The Revised List happens after the Preliminary List goes up for inspection for four days…we make the necessary correction and then we do the Revised List,” she said, when asked when the Revised List was going to be made available to the public.
According to Penn, there has been a flood of persons coming in to get themselves registered and eligible to vote come Election Day.
During the course of last week Premier Dr The Honourable D. Orlando Smith announced the dissolution of the House of Assembly, which actually took place on May 1, 2015, clearing the way for elections to be held.
"According to the Constitution, once the House is dissolved the elections must be held within 60 days but it cannot be held 21 days before the House is dissolved. So between 21-days and 60 days the elections must be held....It looks more to me like May-June elections," Premier Smith said on Thursday April 30, 2015 on ZBVI 780AM.
Opposition confident potential voters being registered
President of the People’s Empowerment Party (PEP) Natalio D. Wheatley aka Sowande Uhuru said that while his party does not have any specific programme, it has been encouraging its members to get registered and from all indications, they have been doing so.
Chairman of the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) Honourable Julian Fraser RA (R3) said that at this time it is business as usual for the party with no particular strategy being employed for voter registration. He said, however, that the party is confident that its supporters are going out and getting registered.

It is so very considerate of the NDP to give would-be voters such a very, very long time to register.
Would you say it is kind and so thoughtful?
If the people don't mind how they are treated, they well deserve exactly what they get!! In the words of that old fashion politician, Mr. Stanford Connor, WHO TO BLAME!
Let us pray that most of those people registering for the first time vote for the VIP even though that party is far from perfect. After all, we don't even know anything about that new set, the People's Empowerment Party (PEP?). Better the devil you know than one you know nothing about!!
We will keep our eyes open this time because last time a lot of irregularities went on in the 3rd and 8th districts.
