UPDATE: Poker Run 2018 huge success; thousands on water
Everyone with a boat that survived the punishing Hurricanes of 2017 is on the sea today, and those whose boats were not ready rented a powerboat, a yacht or made it on one of the local ferries.
Close to 500 power boats, yachts, vessels, dinghy and ferries have flooded the sea lanes in the Virgin Islands’ Territorial waters between the islands of Virgin Gorda, Peter Island, Norman Island, Jost van Dyke and Tortola.
Huge crowd of people
Early estimate of the crowd from Virgin Islands News Online roving cameras and if you included those who stayed on land on Virgin Gorda and the shores of Tortola and Jost van Dyke to watch the spectacular event could reach three to five thousand and the party boats and local ferries, like Speedy’s, Road Town Fast Ferry and Jost van Dyke ferry have been packed with residents for today’s annual poker run.
Registration started around 8:00 A.M. at Leverick Bay, Virgin Gorda and the run got on the way closer to noon.
Money goes to charities
There are four stops first at Scrub Island then Foxy’s Bar and Restaurant on Jost van Dyke, and the third being at Pirates Bight on Norman Island. The fourth was at the Tortola Pier Park, with the final leg of the race at Leverick Bay Resort & Marina on Virgin Gorda, according to organisers.
At each stop there was organised activities and events from bands to Disc Jockeys, food and fashion shows.
The proceeds from the 2018 Poker Run is expected to be donated to charities.

Engines ready for 2018 Poker Run Sunday, May 27!
All power boats, party ferries, yachts and even fishing boats are just about ready for the most anticipated sea event following the 2017 Hurricanes.
It’s the 2018 Leverick Bay Poker Run set for Sunday, May 27, 2018, which is still all about fun, safety, and having a nice time in the clear Virgin Islands water. All participants must follow a pre-designated route and pick up a playing card at each stop.
Local boaters, families from all over the Caribbean, including Puerto Rico and as far as Florida USA will all converge on the waters of the VI for this event.
The highly anticipated poker run also has dancing ladies, DJs, food and other fun-filled events on one of the party boats.
Where are the stops?
While registration starts around 8:00 A.M. at Leverick Bay on Virgin Gorda the run will officially begin at 11:00 A.M. according to organisers, with the first stop being at Scrub Island.
The second stop will be at Foxy’s Bar and Restaurant on Jost van Dyke, and the third being at Pirates Bight on Norman Island. The fourth will be at the Tortola Pier Park, and the entrance fee is $250.00 which is expected to be donated to charities.
The final leg of the race will be at Leverick Bay Resort & Marina on Virgin Gorda, according to organisers.
