UPDATE: McMaster through to semi-finals @ World C/Ships in Doha
Running in lane 4 of Heat 2, McMaster ran a solid first half of the race to ensure a comfortable lead on the homestretch and seemed to throttle back just a bit to spare his legs for tomorrow’s semi-finals.
He crossed the line first in 49.60, with Brazilian Alison Dos Santos taking second in 49.66. Third was Chieh Chen of Taipei in 49.95. The fourth automatic qualifier was Luke Campbell of Germany (50.20).
Also winning their heats were the usual suspects; Norway’s Karsten Warholm (49.27), Qatar’s Abderrahman Samba (49.08) and USA’s Rai Benjaman (49.62).

The Virgin Islands will get into action at the 2019 IAAF World Athletics Championships in Doha, Qatar on Friday, September 27, 2019 when Kyron A. McMaster competes in the heats of the Men’s 400m hurdles.
McMaster is one of three athletes from the Virgin Islands who will feature at the event, the others being Long Jumper and 2019 Pan Am Games gold medalist Chantel E. Malone and Shot Putter Eldred Henry.
The Gold Coast Commonwealth Games gold medalist and 2-time Diamond League champion, McMaster, will open competition in Heat 2 of the Men’s 400m Hurdles.
The Virgin Islander, with a Season’s Best 48:33, is the favourite on paper to qualify, as he has run faster this year than all of the athletes entered in his heat, including Brazilian Alison Dos Santos (SB: 48:45).
McMaster will be running in Lane 4 when the race begins at 1:35pm local time. The semi-finals for that event will be held the following day.
The next VI athlete in action will be Eldred Henry, in the Qualifying Round of the Men’s Shot Put on October 3, 2019.
Next up will be the in-form Chantel E. Malone in the Qualifying Round of the Women’s Long Jump on October 5, 2019.
More than 1900 athletes for Doha
Final lists for the IAAF World Athletics Championships Doha 2019 confirm that more than 1900 athletes from 210 teams will be in action in the Qatari capital between September 27 and October 6, 2019.
The 1972 entries comprise 1054 men and 918 women. Of the 44 individual winners from two years ago, 37 will defend their titles in Doha. All 30 of the newly minted Diamond League champions will also be in action.
Some athletes set to compete in Doha will make history.

When Spanish race walker Jesus Angel Garcia takes to the start line for the 50km race walk on September 28, 2019, not only will the 49-year-old extend his own record number of appearances to 13, but the 1993 world champion will also become the oldest competitor ever to take part in an IAAF World Championships.
Official start lists will become available after the technical meeting on the evening of Thursday September 26, 2019.
