Kenyatta ‘Yates’ Boynes to know fate today
It’s down to crunch time in the High Court for the murder trial of Kenyatta ‘Yates’ Boynes, who is accused of the shooting death of Paul Prentice and attempted murder of another young man.
The trial reached its peak in the High Court yesterday October 24, 2016 when both the Prosecution and the Defense addressed the jury body as both sides had completed presenting their witnesses in the matter.
This morning, October 25, 2016 is set for Justice Nicola P. Byer to address the jury which then paves the way for them to deliberate and return with a decision.
New Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Kim Hollis QC is leading the crown’s case and has started her career in the Virgin Islands by leading from the front.
In Ms Hollis’ opening address to the jury, and in a passionate tone, she described the incident as a moment of terror that left a young man lying dead in the middle of the public road, when people were enjoying an ice-cream on a Sunday afternoon and a couple days before Christmas.
The identity of the crown’s star witness is being protected by a court order to the media and it was the star witness who told the court under oath that he was positive that it was Boynes he had seen during the fatal shooting.
Another man was key in testifying for the crown who told the court that he was out to purchase ice cream when the incident unfolded. The court heard from him that he did not see the shooter from the front and couldn’t recall him having locks down on his back.
It is that witness’ testimony which the defense attorney Patrick Thompson logged on to yesterday in court during his closing arguments. Thompson expressed that the crown star witness’ evidence conflicted with that of the other eye witness.
Attempted murder
Additionally, Boynes is charged with the attempted murder of another man (name released by RVIPF and previously published in the media) as it relates to a shooting incident which took place on Sunday December 14, 2014 at Waterfront Drive, Road Town.
Boynes at the time of his being charged for the offense was a prisoner at Her Majesty’s Prison after he had pleaded guilty on January 26, 2015, before Senior Magistrate Tamia Richards at the Magistrate's Court at John's Hole, to charges of unlawful possession of 16.5 grams of cannabis, an AK 47 assault rifle and possession of 17 rounds of ammunition.

Let us pray for each other
Let us not rejoice. Let us overcome by praying for each other and our Territory which is under seize with crimes and wrong doings.
We have committed The Golden Rule to memory; now let us commit it to life.
So you are saying, even if you know a crime was committed, and know who did it:. Keep your mouth shut or you have to walk around looking over your shoulders. It appears that you are a criminal too, because you sound pretty sure that there are going to be repercussions. I just pray not.
What kind of Justice System is this??
