UPDATE: Johnson survives no-confidence vote; Will remain UK PM
Johnson needed a simple majority of the 359 Conservative members of Parliament to vote in his favor. He won that with 211 supporting him and 148 voting against him, according to The Associated Press.
CBS News reported that vote of no confidence in the Conservative Party is triggered if the party's leaders receive letters of request from at least 15% of sitting Conservative members of Parliament. Conservative Party official Graham Brady said Monday morning that that threshold had been passed.
The prime minister of the United Kingdom is not directly elected to serve in the role, but appointed by the political party that wins the majority of seats in Parliament.
If Johnson had lost the vote today, the Conservative Party, which holds the majority, would have chosen a new leader to automatically take over as PM.

UK PM faces no-confidence vote today
LONDON, UK- Conservative Members of Parliament (MPs) are deciding whether they want controversial Prime Minister Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson to remain their leader.
A vote will be held between 18:00 and 20:00 BST (1:00pm-3:00pm VI time) today, Monday, June 6, 2022, with a result shortly afterwards.
Why is a vote happening?
A number of Conservative MPs have handed in letters calling on Mr Johnson to step down.
Pressure on the prime minister has grown since details of Covid-rule-breaking parties were highlighted in a report, by senior civil servant Sue Gray. She said many "should not have been allowed".
If Mr Johnson loses, he will be forced to stand down as prime minister.
The vote was triggered after at least 54 Conservative MPs asked for it.
At least 180 Conservative MPs - a majority - will have to vote against the PM tonight, if he is to leave.
No 10 says Johnson welcomes the vote as "a chance to end months of speculation".
Most of the cabinet have said they will support him.
But Labour leader Sir Keir R. Starmer urges Tory MPs to "show some leadership" and vote against Johnson.
