UPDATE: Jamaican brothers get 10 years for wounding chef
The siblings were found guilty of the charges of wounding and carrying offensive weapons when they appeared in the High Court on June 4, 2013. The duo had been accused of wounding a Chef employed at Pussers, Mr Loraine Springer aka Tony.
Earlier, Justice Redhead had disagreed with the Crown’s recommended period of sentencing.
"I don't agree," was an emphatic statement made by Justice Redhead when Principal Crown Counsel Tiffany Scatliffe recommended 5-7 years sentence for the Jamaican brothers.
The brothers, who were both represented by Attorney at Law Stephen Daniels, had two character witnesses. One was a Pussers’ Manager, Devon Hamilton, who said he was surprised and shocked to have known that the two were capable of committing the offences as convicted. He said the brothers had grown to become close family friends of his and they were of very good character.
Mr Daniels pleaded with the court for a non-custodial sentence but Justice Redhead said he could not meet such a request. Justice Redhead further said the incident was pre-mediated. The judge also made it clear that he was not prepared to pass a sentence that was in the lower scale of 5-7 years.
Mr Daniels further pleaded his case by stating that both are committed family men with children who are totally dependent on them. The lawyer also said his clients’ current employers were willing to continue to accept them as employees.

Jamaican siblings found guilty of wounding chef
- to be sentenced on July 10, 2013
Jamaican siblings Patrick and Michael Facey were found guilty of the charges of wounding and carrying offensive weapons when they appeared in the High Court on June 4, 2013.
The duo had been accused of wounding a Chef employed at Pussers, Mr Loraine Springer aka Tony.
While giving testimony in the trial, Springer told the court that he had received a threatening text message from one of the brothers and several further threats during a telephone conversation the same night.
The brothers had allegedly pulled out machetes on the defendant. "I turn and say I dead here tonight," Springer had told the court. He had also alleged that he wrestled with Patrick on the morning of July 31, 2011.
The brothers had reportedly fled the scene, leaving Springer wounded after his room-mate had raised an alarm.
Patrick and Michael were also found guilty of carrying offensive weapons. They have been remanded to prison.
The duo is to return to court on July 10, 2013 for sentencing. Prior to the verdict, the brothers were out on bail. They were represented by attorney at law Stephens Daniels.
The crown was represented by senior Crown Counsel Leslie Ann Faulkner and Principal Crown Counsel Tiffany Scatliffe.
Justice Albert Redhead presided over the trial.

I don't understand your logic or your reasoning at all... If the USVI was poor and broke why would have Tolans gone over there to build it up. Isn't it the fact that the United States of America was investing milllions of dollars into those islands therefore jobs and opportunities was created over there is the main reason why so many Tolans left the BVI for better opportunity and work???? Isn't it a fact that the produce that was sent to St Thomas was done so because the people had money to buy the produce. It was a market where Totolian could sell their produce. It was not given to the people as hand outs??? You are making it seems as if the people from the BVI went to the USVI like the red cross to offer their assistance free of charge. Whatever work the Tortolians did in the USVI they were paid for it. It was not done free of charge. In addition, St Croix was and agricultural based economy so I doubt very much if any produce from the BVI went over there. please inform.. Thanks
