UPDATE: It’s confirmed Dr Pickering IN! as candidate for D7
It remains unclear his party affiliation as he had left the party he helped founded in 1998, the National Democratic Party (NDP), to run as an independent in 2019.
Dr Pickering, who will be 64 on April 8, 2022, will be launching at 7:30 PM on Wednesday, April 6, 2022, at the Stickett in Long Look, on the eastern side of Tortola, according to a poster released by the candidate.
In the 2019 general election, Dr Pickering with 20 years in office (1999-2019), was defeated by the Virgin Islands Party’s Dr The Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley (R7), the current Deputy Premier and Minister for Education, Culture, Youth Affairs, Fisheries and Agriculture.
It is expected that there will be about four persons in the 2023 race for the Seventh District seat, along with Dr Pickering and Dr Wheatley. According to sources in the NDP, former banker Kevon S. Lettsome is expected to be their candidate for D7. In addition, residents in the Seventh District have told our news centre that the Water and Sewerage Director Mrs Perline R. Scatliffe-Leonard is considering a run in D7.
In the 2019 election in a three-person race, Dr Wheatley received 384 votes to Dr Pickering’s 338. The NDP candidate Hipolito D. Penn received 136.
This brings to five the number of candidates declared for the Virgin Islands’ General Election constitutionally due by the second quarter of 2023.
The others are Lesmore Smith and Shaina M. Smith-Archer of Progressive Virgin Islands Movement (PVIM); Bevin S. George, who has not stated his party affiliation; and Independent Candidate Rosemary Cindy Rosan.

Dr Pickering reportedly contesting D7 seat in 2023 Elections
Former National Democratic Party (NDP) Candidate and Deputy Premier, Dr Kedrick D. Pickering who was defeated in the 2019 General Elections as an Independent Candidate is expected to announce in the new week, his candidacy for the Seventh District in the 2023 General Elections in the Virgin Islands.
Dr Pickering was defeated in 2019 by the current Deputy Premier and Minister for Education, Culture, Youth Affairs, Fisheries and Agriculture Dr The Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley (R7).
After 20 years, what does he wants?
It is unclear if Dr Picketing who has spent 20 years in office (1999-2019), will return to the NDP or contest as an Independent Candidate, or will join another political party.
Dr Pickering on the November 19, 2019, edition of the Honestly Speaking show had also told moderator Claude O. Skelton-Cline, that he does not miss the politics of the Virgin Islands.
Many critics have said that after 20 years, he has little to show and should leave the political space for new blood.
His supporters claim that he can represent the Territory anywhere and will be poised for a Ministry if his side wins.
More accessible out of office
Since his loss, many have said Dr Pickering became accessible, but while in office he “rode high above the clouds” and no one had access to him especially, the people from district 7, except the elite class who lived on the sister islands and cays.
Dr Pickering who will be 64 on April 8, 2022, is one of the founding members of the main opposition NDP.
At a political campaign leading up to 2015 General Elections, Dr Pickering said the people of the Virgin Islands are jealous of him because he “has rich white friends.”

Welcome back Dr. Kendrick Pickering. We are in great need of help in our country. Our country at this time are in great disarray. The current administration is ineptly incompetent. Many of the bloggers are trying to sow doubts in your mind. They are not rats, but they are as scared as rats at the very announcement that you again contest District 7 seat as out political leader. That know that Hon. Dr. Natalio Sajande Wheatley emensely lacks what is necessary needed to represent this country, and especially District 7. This is the main reason why they are trying to discourage you.
But like Micheal Jordan, and other great shooters know that you can't score a basketball point until you first shoot the ball toward the rim. Neither can one get a hit with the bat remaing on their shoulder our cocked in the air pointing skyward. So run you must, win you will, next coming general election, God, and the voters your propellng strength.
So glad you made ip ur mind
The bottom line is in any job one has to deliver positive outcomes, contribute to the bottomline, etc, and if not one is shown to the door. After 5 terms in office, does the former legislator have a rock solid resume? Claiming that one cannot be worst than the incumbent is a non/starter. Any politician candidate must clearly state what is his/her plan of action, how it will paid for and when will it get it done. Politicians have a habit of overpromising and underdelivering and voters with their short/self-serving memory let them get away with it. Political patronage, freebs, and dependency have ruined BVI politics. Voters are bought with trinkets; we are worth more than trinkets.
Moreover, sometime time in the political wilderness can rejuvenate one into finding a new course(s), new workable and practical plans, new attitude, new found humility and civility (perhaps), etc. Lest not forget that all politicians are chameleons, some are con artists, etc, so let’s wake up from our slumber and be vigilant, smart. The horses are off to the races, for it is talking season, silly season. Listen, evaluate and decide, for the BVI is at critical juncture.
It is possible to fall from the sky, but not from the earth.
.
When one is up, he or she can fall. But if they they are willing to rise again, with God's help, and the voters wisdom redemption will be assured.
One may fail once, twice and more, but only when they quit trying to rise, they are a failure.
Faith wins oer everytime. Why? Because faith without works is failer.
Even the mightiest if man can fall while he is living, only when he or she has lost their will, and strength to rise, they remain down.
Opposition enhance victory.
The ocean waves can smudder a pieces of cork in it's violent furry, but as soon as the wind calm, the cork will rise again.
He is more able, and will do a better job than our current D7 Rep., Hon. Dr. Nathalio "Sajande" Wheatley

You in for a hard fall !
You have neglected the people !
Better yet in the medical feild !
When your caught up in politics your patient suffer !
You've always been a voice of reason during any raging storms!
And you know, while there were many issues on which I never agreed, it can be said, that you were a great statesman.
I love Dr. Wheatley also. He brings a youthful breath of fresh air to the politics of the district!
May the best man win!
In terrible condition
