SEA COWS BAY, Tortola, VI - It was a day to remember for the Family Affairs Stable, when a well-calculated strategy turned out a success and saw Honors sweeping victory in the feature race at Ellis Thomas Down on December 26, 2016 in fine style.

Honors took home the coveted golden trophy, the $10,000 cash prize and of course the bragging rights which he has earned.

According to Alex Lake from Family Affairs Stables, the strategy was to wait behind the leaders then letting him lose to speed home, and Honors did just that.

Lake said the team is thankful for the win as they worked hard together and gave a lot of love to their horses.

In Race One over 6 ½ Furlongs for a purse of $4,000, sponsored by Julian Fraser, was won by El Indultado, ridden by Brian Gonzalez and owned by Brother’s Stables, in a time of 1: 27 and 1.

Gonzalez had seen his ride overtaken by Gottocha Bobb, owned by Mission House Stables, but said afterwards that he was not worried.

“I was really confident in the horse,” he said, “my horse is better, but I thank God for the win!”

Motion 4 Appeal claimed second place whilst Go Pancho Go came third.

Race Two, over 7 Furlongs, with a Purse of $4,500, sponsored by Delores Christopher and for Class C and D horses, saw Gonzalez grab his second win, this time on debutant Gottcha Blessing, in 1:33 flat.

“For a new Horse on the track, he responded well,” said Gonzalez, “he responded well to everything I asked of him.”

Meddling Birdie came home second and DQ Rexter, owned by Alliance Point Stables and also on debut, was third.

Race Three, a one mile affair for a purse of $5,000, sponsored by the BVI Tourist Board, at first saw Rags to Riches throw his rider, Jose Perez, coming out of the gate, but turned into a crowd pleasing thriller.

Crazy Laura took an early two length lead, but was over hauled around the final curve by Top Class Citizen, with Academic Probation still in hot pursuit.

However, down the home stretch the crowd was pulled to its feet by Rags to Riches, who came from nowhere, despite being without a jockey and edged home by a nose.

The actual win, of course, went to Top Class Citizen, owned by Thomasville Stables and ridden by Carlos Quinones, in a time of 1:52 flat.

Crazy Laura finished second and Academic Probation third.

The final race of the day, over 6 Furlongs and worth $6,000, sponsored by CCT Life, Unlimited, was won by Totally Evil in a time of 1:17 and 3, ahead of Bellamy Chief.

Apollo Sky and My Pal Shawn had both scratched and Totally Evil took full advantage, recovering from being over hauled by Daboluck down the back straight, to take the win with Bellamy Chief, owned by Top Priority Racing Stables sneaking in ahead of Daboluck and American Creed.
