‘Couples only’ Valentine’s Day domino competition planned!
- Initiative is about raising bar on family values; father & daugher, mother & son allowed- organisor
Minister for Education and Culture Hon. Myron V. Walwyn and representative of the Eighth District Hon Marlon A. Penn are being targeted as patrons of a unique Valentine’s Day initiative that was crafted by an East End businessman with the intentions of raising the bar on family values.
The event is a ‘couples only’ domino competition.
“If you are not coming as a couple, do not come, it’s a Valentine’s special only for couples.” This is according to proprietor of Right Mix Sports Bar, Derrick R. Varlack. He told Virgin Islands News online that it is on a very rare occasion that one finds persons going out as couples at social events and he intends to use the occasion of St. Valentine’s Day to break that trend.
“How often do you see men coming to the bar with their partners? How often do you see women going to a show with their partners? Very, very rare, and its time couples start going out together that’s why I am having this promotion.” said Mr Varlack.
He has come up with the idea of a two-day domino competition for couples on Saturday, February 9 and Sunday, February 10, 2013 and while there will be a small registration fee for couples, Mr Varlack said that it’s something every couple should grab at because of the many gains to be had. “The most important thing is that they would share the quality time as a couple at something they might not have done since their time of courtship and that is to play.” In addition, each couple will enjoy treats of champagnes and chocolate and chances at winning fabulous prizes. He said that father and daugher, mother and son are also allowed to enter the competition.
The first prize is a Caribbean cruise, the second is an all expense paid weekend for two to St. Maartin, while the third prize is a weekend for two at Nail Bay and fourth is an all expenses paid weekend at Scrub Island.
There is no limit to the number of participants who can enter the competition, but one thing’s for sure they would have to be prepared for the likely challenge of Minister of Education Hon. Myron Walwyn and representative of the Eighth District Marlon Penn, both of whom are lined up to be there with their partners in the competition.
Varlack said this year will be the first of its kind but he intends to have it as an annual promotion.
In June of 2012 Mr Varlack had organised a two-day domino competition in East End for fathers of the Virgin Islands. Moose 1 had carted off the $1000 cash prize.
The tournament took place at Right Mix Sports Bar and Lounge in East End, in the vicinity of the Post office and Black Well Laundry, the same venue for the Valentine’s Day tournament.
