ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Attorney at law Patrick Thompson has taken on the task of representing Ian Thomas aka DJ Commodore, who is to be tried in the High Court for allegedly raping a minor.

Thomas' case is said to be the oldest case currently sitting in the High Court and has been repeatedly set down for a number of challenges, the main being legal representation.

The matter was called again today, June 25, 2013 and Principal Crown Council Ms Tiffany Scatliffe informed the court that the accused was assigned council in the person of attorney at law Patrick Thompson who had requested time to familiarise himself with the details of the case since he only received the assignment over the last 24 hours.

She insisted that the crown is fully ready to proceed with the case but requested that July 2, 2013 be set as a new date for report.

Mr Thomas was originally represented by Mr Herbert McKenzie of Orion Law Firm but, according to reports, Mr McKenzie has since parted ways with the firm but has had challenges securing a work permit to continue representing Mr Thomas.

Meanwhile, Justice Albert Redhead granted the request for the new date for report and Thomas was so advised.

DJ Commodore’s trial adjourned...again

- 'legal impediment' forces adjournment for second time this week; Accused may have to seek legal aid

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - The High Court trial of Ian Thomas aka DJ Commodore was further adjourned today June 11, 2013 making it the second time for this week.

Attorney at Law Herbert McKenzie said everything was in place for today's trial except for one "legal impediment", which has resulted in the adjournment of the trial.

If the "impediment" continues beyond 2 P.M. today, Thomas may have to resort to legal aid representation. He was advised by Justice Redhead to immediately proceed to file an application with Legal Aid.

The case was called in the High Court before Justice Albert Redhead on Monday when it was put down for the same "impediment".

A new date has been set for June 24, 2013.

Thomas had pleaded not guilty after being accused of raping a 15-year-old girl on March 23, 2011 in Josiah’s Bay, Tortola.

The incident allegedly took place after the teen had missed her school bus ride and was offered a drop to school by the accused. At the time she was not aware of his identity, but according to the details of the case the man took her to his home in Josiah’s Bay where he allegedly sexually assaulted her.

Thomas was arrested on suspicion of rape on Saturday, March 26, 2011. He was formally charged the following day. He was granted $20,000 back in 2011, and was ordered to stay away from the complainant.
