SEA COWS BAY, Tortola, VI- New information reaching Virgin Islands News Online (VINO) is that the dirt bike rider was not involved in a collision with a vehicle at Sea Cows Bay on Sunday, January 22, 2023, but allegedly hit the pavement and went over the guardrail and onto some rocks.

Our newsroom was initially told that the bike rider was hit by a vehicle.

A woman who claimed to be the wife of the injured man confirmed on Facebook that no other vehicle was involved.

She also said the rider was seriously injured.

“Sadly he is not doing well and requires emergency surgery. A lot of damage and the doctors are doing their level best to keep him breathing,” Geraldine Van der Merwe stated.

'Dirt bike' rider struck by vehicle in Sea Cows Bay

Information just reaching our newsroom is that the rider of a 'dirt bike' was struck by a vehicle in Sea Cows Bay this morning, January 22, 2023.

According to reports, the accident took place on the corner between 'Elevator Hill' and Nanny Cay, sometime after 10:00 am.

It is unclear what were the circumstances surrounding the mishap.

The injured man was subsequently taken to Dr D. Orlando Smith Hospital.

        What do you all expect from the Minister. He did not give any of you the bikes. He did not tell you all not to get biking skills before going on the road. He did not tell you all not to use helmets and other protective gear. Who do not hear will feel.

    I do not know whether the vehicle's driver or the bike rider is at fault or probable if both was for this latest accident that has a cured at Sea Cow's Bay, as was reported. But this I do know for sure. There are many young reckless males bike, especially motor bikes riders on the roads and streets of the BVI daily.
    Not only are they endangering the lives of vehicle drivers, but roads and streets travelers, Tourist included, too.

    The above is well known by the past, and current polirical administrations, but seemingly for political, and other lawless reasons, the same is continuing.

    Should fight the Uk over our constitution, and fight for indepence, rather the first fighting to save the lives of our beloved youths, that are self destructing?
    Where is our love for them, in our mouth only?
    Why have not as yet the laws, that are in place, against wreckless (forgive me for mispelled wreckless as reckless) not being enforced by our present government leaders? I know the answer. Should I tell you the main reason why? Ok, I will, bellow.
    The main reason in my opinion is that our political leaders is fearful that if they were to enforce wreckless .otor bikes riding by our youths, they probable may not vote for them personally nor their political affiliated party.


    Note: Love is not void of justice.
    If you and truly love our youths, then we should let justice have its course.

    In spite of who is at fault, I do hipe that the dirtbike rider will speedily and fully recovery from his or her injury or injuries.

    The young guys on bikes around here make driving these roads seriously worrisome. Driving without headlights, in the dark, no concern for other motorists on the road, unable to see them coming around a corner. No driver wants to be among the unlucky ones who invariably will collide with these bikers. Several months were driving behind two bikers heading between Duffs Bottom and Sea Cows Bay, and both bikers were helmetless, popping wheelies WAY back on their back tires, and I was so worried one of them would fall backward and we’d be unable to avoid hitting one of them. And how many times have we been surprised by a biker, out of the blue, very dangerously overtaking us, on a curve in the road, or coming fast towards us, while overtaking someone else on the curve of a road. And how many times have we seen these young men on their bikes, while looking NOT at the road, but at the cell phone in their hand. I’ve said it before. These guys don’t seem to have a care in the world about their own personal safety. Nor do they have any concern for any of us or our personal safety on the road. Government Officials, RVIPF, Community, we must do better about communicating the seriousness of driving safely. And RVIPF, you must do your job in helping keep these unsafe riders of bikes OFF the roads unless and until they comply with the Law and the rules of the road.

    As someone present on the scene, this rider was not hit by a car. The gentleman hit the sidewalk, lost control and was thrown over the guard rail and was injured on the rocks. Thankfully he was able to climb back over the guard rail and get to the sidewalk where he could be seen by passing drivers

    Are there any laws in place against these bikers behavior? The HOA members are responsible for laws. There may be some laws at least, but the deputy chief should have made this clear when he gave his opinion the other day following the accident on Fort Hill.

    If there are laws, are they being enforced? If not, then the Commissioner of Police (and ultimately the Governor) are responsible. I suspect these two might be the real culprits.

    @ purebloods the vaccine is the reason for millions of accidents because these mixed DNA people are getting heart attacks and strokes while driving so they can't control the situation. It's very sad but the government needs to fix the roads and ban driving All Under the age of 25 to drive a scooter. It should be just like a rentals these kids are a different breed monkey see monkey do and they think they are invisible.
