UPDATE: Dakeem Cheltenham identified as shooting victim
The young man has been identified to this news site as Dakeem Cheltenham of Belle Vue, Tortola.
Virgin Islands News Online had first and accurately reported about the shooting that took place sometime before 5:00 A.M.
Meanwhile, police confirmed our story in a press release today, October 29, 2016 and added that one person was injured.
According to Detective Chief Inspector Hazel, head of the Special Investigation Unit, investigation confirmed that shots were fired just outside UP’s Cineplex and a 21 year old man suffered multiple gunshot wounds.
“The young man is presently at Peebles Hospital being treated. Detective Chief Inspector Hazel and his team will be investigating CCTV footage of the area and speaking to persons who were present to progress the investigation.”
An appeal is also being made for persons who were present in the area at the time of shooting with information to identify the shooter or any information that would assist with investigation to contact Detective Chief Inspector Larocque at 368-9809.or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIPS (8477).

Shots fired near UP's in Road Town
Information just reaching our newsroom is that police are investigating a shooting that took place in the vicinity of UP's Cineplex in Road Town early this morning, October 29, 2916.
According to reports, a hail of gunfire was heard sometime before 4: 00 A.M.
Police had cordoned off the area following the shooting.
It is not clear at this time if persons have been injured or if any arrests have been made as efforts to get information on the incident from the Royal Virgin Islands Police were not successful up to publication time.
