UPDATE: COVID positive staff came in contact with 2 Hon Members – HoA Speaker
Hon Willock in a statement today, Monday, December 13, 2021, said the exposure happened on Friday, December 10, 2021, and is currently being handled by the Ministry of Health amidst an erroneous news report from local tabloid BVI News which stated that a Legislator was reportedly infected.
“In keeping with the Ministry of Health’s protocol on contact tracing the officer advised that he was in direct contact with two Honourable Members and an HoA staff. The three persons who are fully vaccinated will be in isolation until their covid test,” Hon Willock noted.
He further said that the Richard C. Stoutt Building in Road Town will be closed to the public from today Monday, December 13, 2021, to Friday, December 17, 2021.

“The office will resume business to the public from Monday, December 20, 2021, at 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM and we ask both staff and the public to observe all Covid-19 Protocols; please wear your masks to cover your nose and mouth, sanitize your hands when entering and leaving the building and stay 3 feet apart.”
Hon Willock further stated that out of an abundance of caution, the HoA will not meet at the Save the Seed Centre, but will continue on Tuesday and Wednesday, December 14 & 15, 2021 virtually, to conduct the Budget Debate and other business.
“The Speaker, Hon Julian Willock takes this opportunity to strongly encourage all to get vaccinated, as the science still proves that vaccination significantly reduces the risk of getting and spreading the virus and the chances of dying from Covid-19,” he said.
The Speaker also encouraged all to tune in on radio and via television to watch and listen to the processions of the 2022 Budget Debates.

Budget debates reportedly moving virtual over COVID case @ HoA office
-Sources say staff in quarantine with others told to self-isolate
ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Information coming into Virgin Islands News Online (VINO) is that the December 14 & 15, 2021, budget debates is said to be moving virtual over a staff at the House of Assembly (HoA) reportedly testing positive with COVID-19.
The HoA which is usually opened to the public and held at the Save the Seed Centre will now only be streamed via YouTube and the HoA Facebook page, and carried via local radio and television.
Sources say that as a result of the positive case at the HoA office, persons have been forced to move into isolation as the officer in question is reportedly now in quarantine.
The latest report of COVID in the House comes at the territory has some 40 active cases of the virus as of December 10, 2021, with a new death as confirmed by Health Minister, Hon Carvin Malone (AL).
4th Budget under Fahie Gov't
Meanwhile, Premier Andrew A. Fahie (R1) on November 11, 2021, presented a $397.17M Budget for 2022, the 4th national budget in less than three years from his administration despite the challenges of the pandemic and burden of the ongoing United Kingdom-backed Commission of Inquiry (CoI).
The 2022 budget represented an increase of $13.58 million from last year’s revised budget estimate of $383.59 million; and $698,000 less than the 2020 revised estimated expenditure of $397.87 million.
