UPDATE: CIBC Bank re-opens after COVID forced RT branch closure
The bank in a statement today said it was forced to close on November 30, 2021, as a result of COVID-19 case, which according to information affected payments to BVIHSA Staff.
The statement said, that "in accordance with current protocols and directives issued by the Ministry of Health and Social Development, [the brach] temporarily closed due to the detection of a positive COVID-19 case within the confines of the administrative section of the bank."
The Bank further said, it "expects to offer all service on Friday, December 3 pending clearance from the BVI Health Services Authority for persons in isolation to return to work," and noted that all areas of the bank were thoroughly sanitized before reopening.
"During this time, clients may continue to access their funds at the ABMs at the Wickham's Cay 1 branch, at the Tortola Pier Park, at the Marcy Building, Port Purcell, and at The Boys' Service Station, Sea Cow's Bay."
The statement said cash and cheque deposits, credit card payments, and loan payments can be conducted at the ABM at the branch at Wickham's Cay 1 and online Banking and Mobile App services can be used to facilitate transfers, bill payments, check account balance and other transactions.

BVIHSA staff facing late payment due to banking issues
ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Salaries of some staff of the BVI Health Services Authority (BVIHSA) will not be paid on time this month-end because of banking issues.
An email sent to employees recently stated that the closure of CIBC First Caribbean International Bank will affect payment for the pay period of November 30, 2021.
CIBC said in a notice on November 29, 2021, that their Road Town branch "is closed until further notice." The bank also told customers that they could access their accounts at any of their ATM's, online and on mobile banking services.
“Please note that due to a combination of various issues beyond our control, the salaries of employees who bank with the under noted institutions will be delayed: CIBC First Caribbean – Said bank is closed until further notice and there was no one present to receive payroll today. We will spare no effort tomorrow to ensure that we find a solution to this problem,” the email said.
Payments through Banco Popular & First Bank also affected
The email said employees banking with Banco Popular and First Bank will also be affected.
“As previously advised, these banks require two business days for payroll processing and we missed the deadline. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience to you and solicit your patience and understanding in this matter.”
A further update will be provided on the progress of salary payments today, November 30, 2021.
The BVIHSA has one of the largest staff contingents in the territory.

These are signs of distress , it will happen around the world, a financial crisis that has never seen before. When a bank closure of any reason and use words such as "until further notice" signal, not solution or a very , very slow solutions. Therefore if the banks is given these signal of red flags, our economy is also in jeopardy, as business will not be able to pay after a period of time and a go slow will happen. For what period of time is beyond me. Never seen this before
