CHARLOTTE AMALIE, St. Thomas, USVI- Police in St. Thomas, United States Virgin Islands have not been able to make any arrests so far in relation to a shooting last evening October 18, 2011 that claimed the lives of two persons including young Virgin Islander, K’Nesia Braithwaite.

Braithwaite, 20, along with her boyfriend Konorr Donastorg, 24, were gunned down at around 9 p.m. at Estate Anna’s Retreat, and according to Information Officer of the USVI Police Department Melody Rhames, Police are investigating the shooting. She, however, did not wish to comment on the possible motive for the killing.

Braithwaite, a former student of the BVI High School now Elmore Stoutt High School, was also a graduate of the University of the Virgin Islands and held a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminology.

According to one relative who spoke with Virgin Islands News Online, the young Virgin Islander was to take up new job on Monday October 24, 2011 in a field related to her studies.

The close relative of Braithwaite described her tragic passing as “very sad”.

“She was a quiet person, she was sweet, she was such a smart person,” said the relative who last saw Braithwaite on Monday October 10, 2011 when she returned to St. Thomas after spending a few days on Tortola. Braithwaite, who was the mother of a one-year-old son, had resided with her grandmother in St. Thomas.

The relative said so far she is unsure whether the body will be brought back to Tortola for funeral but her two daughters who are cousins of Braithwaite and also good friends, have traveled to St. Thomas earlier today.

The relative further disclosed that one of her daughters had spoken to Braithwaite moments before she was gunned down.

Braithwaite is the daughter of Kesia King who is a Class 4 teacher at the Ivan Dawson Primary School and would have celebrated her 21st birthday on November 29.

Braithwaite was also a local track athlete during her primary and secondary school years, and according to Dean “Sportsman” Greenaway, she had shown a lot of potential in her primary school and early high school years.

The Management and Staff of Virgin Islands News Online express our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Braithwaite.

Thanks for your detail reporting VINO...you did not rush to judgment. This is a sad chapter in the life of Nesia who have worked hard all of her life and did what was right by staying in school, finishing college and getting a job. We do not know to whom the bell toll.

I simply cannot believe this! K’Nesia was a lovely young woman with a very bright mind and promising future. WHO would do such a thing? I would like to speak directly to the beast who did this vicious deed – May GOD have mercy on your soul whoever you are, because very few of us living on this Earth will! You are nothing. You are less than an insect. YOU ARE A COWARD! Your life will not be worth living from now on. My family and I will pray for K’Nesia, her family and friends and especially for her poor distraught mother, siblings and baby son. I have NEVER wanted to inflict harm on another human being in my life. Today, that has changed. I want to scream at the top of my lungs - and do many things that are not fit to publish! When in France years ago, I had the opportunity to visit the Rodin museum. When strolling through the garden, I was terrified by the specter of Rodin's bronze sculpture of an avenging angel titled "A Call to Arms". The angel is seen screaming in complete and utter horror at the sight of a dying soldier, mortally wounded by the evil enemy. http://www.bluffton.edu/~sullivanm/rodin/call3.jpg THAT is how I feel right now! Baby girl, you go with God and take your rest. You will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing you and be assured your adorable little boy will be well looked after until such time as you see him again. You are most definitely in a much better place! Your ungodly murder will not go unpunished.

I totally agree with you. I knew this young lady from time she was a child and I feel such sorrow to see this happen to her. However, there is something very wrong with the way in which she died. We have to be very careful with the people we associate with or form a union with because it is obvious to a blind man that this was no random shooting. To the St. Thomas authorities leave no stone unturn in getting to the bottom of this gruesome murder. K'Nesia was one of our gems and we want to see justice done.
