Operations @ TB Lettsome Airport suspended; Banks closed

Operations at the Terrence B Lettsome International Airport have been temporarily suspended today, May 8, 2024, due to a deterioration in visibility.

This has been confirmed by Managing Director of the BVI Airports Authority Mr Kurt A.G. Menal.

“It’s an operational procedure,” Mr Menal told our News Centre.

Banks closed today

Meanwhile, banks in the Virgin Islands will be closed today also due to the inclement, according to the BVI Bank Association.

It listed the banks as Bank of Asia (BVI), CIBC Caribbean, First Bank Virgin Islands, National Bank of the Virgin Islands, Popular, Republic Bank (BVI), and VP Bank (BVI).

“The BVI Bank Association regrets any inconvenience caused in this regard, but safety remains our priority. A further update will be provided regarding delayed openings, as applicable,” the Association stated today.

The Department of Disaster Management (DDM) said moisture and instability in association with a persistent upper-level trough continues to generate periods of cloudiness showers across the island.

It said the weather today will see cloudy skies with a 70 percent or high chance of showers.

One will hope the Minister of Finance will recognize after yesterday’s serious disruptions that He will consider spending more money on our infrastructure than paying Artists lump sums of the people tax money on BullSh!¥

All of we suffer some kind of disruption yesterday But all of We not going behind the Admin Complex for entertainment

The politicians need to take responsibility more seriously: our children was in panic mode under yesterday flooding conditions and that is not right
