UPDATE: 2 hit by lightning remain in hospital
The two were reportedly struck by lightning during rainy and overcast conditions early yesterday.
Speaking with this news site today August 17, 2015, President of the HLSCC Dr Karl Dawson confirmed that the men were still in hospital and said he was making efforts to track when they would be released.
Several efforts to garner information from various official and unofficial sources at Peebles Hospital with regard to the condition of the men proved futile. The men were said to have suffered burns on several parts of their bodies as a result of the lightning strike.
Dr Dawson said that at this time he would not be able to release the names of the men until such time that their families have confirmed that it is "ok" to do so. Dr Dawson remained hopeful that the men would be soon released from Peebles Hospital.
