UPDATE: 16-year-old in alleged gun find remanded to prison
The matter was heard in camera since the alleged offendor is a minor.
Police alleged that the youth was discovered with a loaded firearm in the vicinity of Brandywine Bay while riding a motor scooter without a helmet.
The weapon was allegedly retrieved from the juvenile's front pocket.
Following the hearing, he was remanded to Her Majesty's Prison at Balsum Ghut until June 20, 2013.

Police seize firearm from 16-year-old

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The RVIPF is applauding the efforts of officers who removed yet another firearm from the streets last Wednesday, May 8, 2013.
Officers of the Task Force observed a scooter being ridden by a 16-year-old male without the use of a helmet in the Brandywine Bay area. He was stopped and questioned. A loaded handgun was retrieved from his front pocket. He was subsequently arrested and charged for unlawful possession of ammunition and carrying an unlicensed firearm.
Less than a month ago, a Police led stop-search operation resulted in the seizure of yet another firearm and the arrest of two men.
Acting Deputy Commissioner Alwin James continues to appeal to the public for information that could assist in identifying those who are in possession of illegal firearms. “We are asking those who know of individuals with illegal firearms to call the anonymous Crimestopper 800-TIPS, 800-8477. We are doing our part; we need the public to help. The information given could save a life,” he said.
