UK Report: OTs should remove belongership status, legalise same-sex marriage
These are some of the sweeping recommendations handed down on Wednesday, February 20, 2019, by the UK parliamentary Foreign Affairs Committee that looks into the future of the UK Overseas Territories relationship and the report goes on to further to say that, if it’s not adhered to, it should be imposed.
Legalise Same-Sex Marriage
In its report entitled, “Global Britain and the British Overseas Territories: Resetting the relationship”, the Committee said, “It is time for all OTs to legalise same-sex marriage and for the UK Government to do more than simply support it in... It must be prepared to step in, as it did in 2001 when an Order in Council decriminalised homosexuality in OTs that had refused to do so.”
Another recommendation that has far-reaching consequences is removing belongership status and its equivalents. It said these provisions are wrong and is calling for UK residents to have voting rights and for them to be allowed to run for office in Overseas Territories.
It continued, “While we recognise that the OTs are small communities with unique cultural identities, we do not accept that there is any justification to deny legally-resident British Overseas Territory and UK citizens the right to vote and to hold elected office.”
Belongership elevates one group
Citing reasons for the removal of belongership, the report states that the status elevates one group of British people over another and risks undermining the ties that bind the UK and the OTs together in one global British family according to the report.
The Committee also addressed the issue of public beneficial ownership registries, saying the UK government must “provide a clear and detailed timetable for the publication of registers of beneficial ownership in each OT – in line with Parliament’s recognition that this is a matter of national security.”

Like how they legalize adulterous marriages.
I see so many persons commenting how Christians should do this and that as though you’re exempted from the same expectations of God.
Is it any wonder the UK has decided the BVI is incapable of governing itself. The
God. These are not our wishes.
We the people took out no loans. We see no money, very little quality of life improvements.
The people in power need to use the money wizely and stop putting chains around our necks. How soon can they pay back 300 million?
Dont take the dumb loan, when we the people are still living poor with or without these loans. Free up the people, stop the economic slavery and let who want to marry same sex do so, let who want to plant and use cannabis do so.
Jesus walked with non-beleivers & God gave us cannabis and free will for a reason. Ayo faith so weak that you can not see a sinner without joining the party?
Or so weak that you dont believe cannabis is a god given herb bearing seed?
We do not need politcal independance, we need to free our minds and learn to prosper.
The House of Commons and PFAC is floating some proposals, ie, belonger status, same sex marriage, beneficial ownership... ...etc that perhaps many VI residents may have a different view on. Undoubtedly, these proposals impinge on the culture, customs, norms, courtesies, religious preference........etc, of the VI people, along with affecting 1/2 of the economic twin pillars——-financial services. Consequently, many VI residents expect government to have urgent discussion(s) with the UK on the propsal.
The VI people and government should not just roll over and accept the proposals without any discussions. It would be governing malpractice if government didn’t pursue discussions with the UK. Several parties leaders have already expressed concerns about the proposals. Anticipate that after the election dust has settled and a new government is sworn in a delegation will be on its way to London. The timing and the release of this report is interesting and adds more fuel to an already heated election. What was the down side to releasing this report in early March? Is this a Trojan Horse?
