Two disturbances pop up in the Atlantic after 12 days of quiet
However, there are now considered the first disturbances in the tropics in almost two weeks with the first disturbance being a tropical wave in the eastern Atlantic.
The NOC detailed that the scattered showers and thunderstorms in the system are forecast to move northwest, away from the Cabo Verde islands, by Thursday, with a 30% chance to develop into a tropical cyclone through the weekend.
The second disturbance is another area of low pressure in the central Atlantic that forecasters predict will have slower development. It's expected to also move to the northwest over the Atlantic Ocean, with a 20% chance to become a tropical cyclone later into the week.
The peak of hurricane season is considered to be September 10, 2023, and comes as the National Hurricane Center updated its forecast for the 2023 hurricane season to an above-average number of tropical storms.
Be ready- Governor Rankin
Meanwhile, Governor John J. Rankin (CMG) speaking at the recent Carrot Bay Cultural Fiesta has called for the persons in the VI to be prepared given the increased risk of hurricanes to come.
"Have your toolbar ready, have your torches ready, if you have a generator have that ready…. to be prepared to be as safe as possible for hurricane season,” he said.
