According to sources, the incident occurred shortly after 18:00hrs yesterday, Friday, June 12, 2020, along the James Walter Francis Drive after officers from the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) noticed that the vehicle the two were travelling in, had violated a red traffic light stop.
Sources told Virgin Islands News Online (VINO) that officers then trailed and pulled over the vehicle and it was after the stop, that police were greeted with the strong scent of burning marijuana emitting from inside the car.
Rusty shotgun hidden in car
When questioned, the female admitted that she was the one smoking which led to police conducting a search of the vehicle and discovering what appeared to be a rusty shotgun hidden by the spare wheel of the car.
The female car owner denied owning the gun and instead stated that her vehicle is used by several persons after officers told her that it was illegal to carry an unlicensed weapon.
The two occupants were taken into police custody as investigations continue.
