TRW & FLOW heighten calls for road safety during Festival
TRW’s commitment to road safety throughout the island became even more evident on Saturday July 23, 2016 when, in collaboration with FLOW, it took to the streets posting banners at strategic locations across the island as part of its national road safety campaign.
Road safety banners were placed in different areas, including Huntums Ghut, Noel Lloyd Positive Action Movement Park, Baugher’s Bay, in front of Everyday Fashions in Road Town, and at the junction of the Road Town Police Station.
The members of the road safety outreach programme are Devon Joseph, Shadiqua Chinnery, Kamika Forbes, Guy Mathias, Shernette Mathias, Kyron Adams and Adrian Roberts (Technology Operations lead for FLOW).
Don’t drink & drive
Dr Carl Dawson, who heads the TRW, stressed that road safety is very important to FLOW and wishes everyone a safe Festival season. “This is the Festival season and you know we have the kids would be out and about on riding their bicycles and scooters so we think it’s important to push road safety now as well,” Dr Dawson told this news site.
He further added, “During this time also we have lots of drinking and revelry so we want to encourage persons to drink responsibly, don’t drink and drive, wear your helmets and put into practice all the rule and regulations that governs road safety. But this is not only for this period but all times.”
The activities of Saturday marked the initial phase of TRW’s national campaign. The banners display witty road safety messages reminding motorists in the community to be mindful of the road laws.
This joint venture between Flow and TRW was undertaken in an effort to remind the motorists that road safety is imperative in order to prevent the loss of lives and limbs.
TRW is a locally based non-profit organisation lead by Dr Carl Dawson.
Throughout the year the organisation visited a number of different high schools on Tortola, raising awareness among school children about proper road usage and traffic rules.
Dr Dawson believes that road safety education should be mandatory to minimise accidents. According to him, the national campaign is the first of many to reach adults in the community.
