Trinidadian acquitted of 22 gun related charges

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Trinidadian Kellon M. Fortune, a resident of Lower Estate on Tortola, was acquitted of twenty-two counts of possession of prohibited weapons and possession of an unlicensed firearm on Thursday, December 5, 2024.

Mr Fortune was arrested by police in Road Town on March 1, 2022, and was charged at the Magistrate’s Court on March 3, 2022. The indictable complaints were that Mr Fortune between February 19, 2022, and March 1, 2022, at Havers Estate had in his possession four multicaliber rifles and a FN Herstal Belgium Pistol.

No case submission

More than two years after his arrest, Mr Fortune appeared in open court on Thursday before High Court Judge Hon Justice Angelica Teelucksing.

A no case submission was presented to the court on Mr Fortune’s behalf by his lawyer Attorney Mr Israel Bruce of Bruce and Associate Law Chambers. Justice Teelusking acquitting the Trinidadian on the no case submission presented by Mr Bruce.

    What the hell.is going on here. No explination given as to why or how this no submission was presented or indeed acepted.
    What are the facts.? No search warrent, no evidence? No brains ???

      As I frequently remind people, the decision to prosecute is mine and mine alone - but I tend not to remind people about that when cases are dismissed at half time on a submission of no case to answer.

      If you don't have all the info about the case, why comment? He was never found in possession of any weapons. If you had the facts you'd understand why the case got thrown out and probably asked why it took so long to get thrown out... smh
