Triathlon’s 4 Island Cup 1st Leg slated for next Sunday

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – The Triathlon Federation’s Four Islands Cup gets underway this coming Sunday February 8, 2015 with the TSC Tri and Corporate Cup event, which starts at Baugher’s Bay and finishes at the Tortola Sports Club.

Richard Morgan's two year reign as TSC Tri champion ended last year when Antony Spencer beat him by one minute and 36 seconds. Deloitte comfortably held onto the Corporate Cup finishing over five minutes ahead of second placers Ernst & Young. BDO was third.

Kay Reddy won the ladies, just under two minutes ahead of Natasha Ruscheinski. Debbie Bell took third place. A battle expected in this division this year.

The Four Islands Cup is a new series comprising the seven main events of the 2015 BVI triathlon year starting with the TSC Tri.

The top three men and ladies will win a Garmin Fenix 3, Forerunner 310XT, and Forerunner 10 respectively. These individual men’s and ladies winners will be scored with their best results from five events.

The TSC Tri is the first event of the Virgin Islands triathlon season. It’s open to individual men and women, Open Teams and Corporate Teams and consists of a 750m swim, 20k bike ride and 5k run.

Registration is at Tortola Sports Club on Friday, February 6, 2015 from 5.30 to 6.30 pm and Participants fall into four categories: 1. Men’s individual entry US$20 2. Female individual entry US$20 3. Open team (ringers allowed) (entry US$20 per team member with teams consisting of 2 or 3 individuals) 4. Corporate Team (no ringers) (must be a three person team) (entry US$100 per team).

Only Corporate teams eligible for Corporate Cup. Start time: 7.00am

The triathlon starts on the beach at Baughers Bay (the small beach next to the WoodShop at the Peter Island Ferry dock). Please park your car in the car park at the Peter Island Ferry dock.

Prizes for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd placed man, woman and team will be awarded at the sports club over breakfast after the race. Only Corporate teams are eligible for Corporate Cup.

SWIM 450 metres RACECOURSE: the swim racecourse begins and ends at the Baughers Bay beach (the swim course will be clearly marked).

BIKE 20 km - The bike ride begins at the Baughers Bay beach and heads through Road Town to a turnaround point just beyond Palestina, at the Ocean Reef Apartments, where a Marshall will be stationed. Riders then head back to the sports club for the changeover point.

RUN 5 km The run starts and ends at TSC. Runners will turn left out of the sports club and head along the dual carriageway before circling the roundabout at Port Purcell and heading back to Town to Banco Popular, before runners head down Waterfront Drive and back to the sports club.

According to organizers “this is a fun triathlon and while it is recognized that entrants will give it their all, they should recognize that the event is a fun triathlon, the marshals and organizers in the event will try their best to make sure that everything is performed as well as possible. Please treat the event in the fun spirit in which is it intended.”
