Trial for alleged chain robbers likely to be traversed

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – The trial of two young men accused of robbing a man of two Gucci chains and a gold pendant in 2010 is expected to be traversed to the February 2012 criminal assizes due to the slow pace of the current assizes.

At the moment, presiding Judge Indra Hariprashad-Charles is out of the jurisdiction on official business for one week and prior to that the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) had commenced a trial until a month after the assizes had opened.

Restack Prince Evans and Deshawn Matthew are alleged to have robbed a tourist of his jewellery while he was walking in the Baughers Bay community on December 4, 2010.

The jewellery worth $2, 200 was subsequently recovered. Both men have legal representation and are on $25,000 bail with one signed surety each.
