ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- (Post Time: 11:30am) Trent Harrigan, 26, of Slaney Hill was denied bail when he appeared before Magistrate Ayana Baptise-DaBreo at the Magistrate's Court at John's Hole today, June 10, 2015.

Harrigan is charged with the attempted murder of Kani Hazell, who was shot four times outside UP's Cineplex in the early morning hours of June 7, 2015.

According to the prosecution, CCTV footage revealed Hazell, in the company of two other persons, leaving the UP's nightclub when a person walked up to Hazell and shot him at close range.

The victim is said to be on life support at Peebles Hospital and has lost an eye and has also suffered a punctured lung. He was reportedly shot four times, twice to the head and twice to the upper torso.

The prosecution said police responded to a report of gun shots fired in the vicinity of UP's Cineplex at around 4:24am on Sunday June 7, 2015. The report stated that an unknown male was on the ground and appeared to have been shot. Spent shells were recovered on the scene by police.

Meanwhile, the prosecution further stated that the shooter in the CCTV footage was pointed out as Trent Harrigan and police visited his home on the said day of the shooting where they allegedly recovered clothing that Harrigan appeared to have worn and that was identifiable from the CCTV footage.

Harrigan reportedly denied shooting anyone and when presented with the CCTV footage he denied he was the person seen shooting Hazell.

The defendant, who is represented by Mary Lou Creque, is to return to court on July 10 for a report.

This is so sad. Trent, when he first came back to the BVI was a handsome and promising young man full of talent. I can hardly recognize him now. Somehow the system and family has failed this young man. Did anyone encouraged him in his football career or even considered giving him a scholarship to pursue it before he turned to ******?
Now look what this has caused a dangling future, locked away in a cell. Let’s pray for our young men, they are dying and being incarcerated at a young age. I pray that the Government will do their best to correct this and help our young men who are crying out for attention, help and a position in life.

The system and family didn't fail him, he did that all on his own when he allegedly decide to act like an immature individual!

At Age 26, the decision to be fed, bathed, clothed and entertained in Jail is a personal decision made only by the persons who chose that path in life. It is a rather sad situation that this fate, or perhaps glory has befallen young Trent. But despite the fact this young man allegedly retaliated with the use of a gun, it appears that he did not use best of judgment in weighing the different alternatives that were possibly out there to be utilizes. It is also a fact that incidents occur for a reason, and something must have triggered the outcome, but because of the lack of learned knowledge this young Trent allegedly acted irresponsibly and resorted to the gun. I don't know young Trent, neither do I know young Hazell. But for Trent to allegedly unleash four or more rounds of ammunition upon his victim, it is a clear indication that something went wrong; something went drastically wrong in the home, the church, the school and his social arena.
The home perhaps ignored the training and development
The school perhaps had a difficult syllabus
The church perhaps invited him but he never showed up
His friends could not be trusted.

Forensics will have to determine. Was there gun powder on his clothes? Blood? I assume there was enough evidence to make the arrest but we all know on Tola you are Guilty until proven Innocent.

If them even send it off to test, I'm sure they only went off of the video surveillance. We need better forensics equipment here so we can do our own testing here. I wonder if we ever gonna get that. Yeah right.

YOUNG MAN. I DO NOT KNOW YOU, and you are innocent until proven guilty. but if the fact remains, that you did pull the trigger, i must say you a a cold hearted individual...how could you do such a thing, WERE YOU HIGH ON THE MUSIC, DRUGS OR ALCOHOL..even at close range, and FOUR TIMES..what about the two other individuals that were there with you????????..i try to read the look on your face, for it says so many things,...sadness, regret, remorse,..i do see a little, anger and rage as well...don't know whats going in in your head right now, but i feel for you...so young yet so lost.. but its never to late..you can always turn the page..its just a sad situation for both families...

I am sorry for what happened to the young man who was shot but I have to say as well that I am sorry for Trent. Trent was a promising young man. Things happen to people that they can't emotionally handle and unfortunately they do things that are out of character. I wish both the best and I guess justice will have to be served regardless.

This young generation has learnt from the Generation(s) before them. In those days a good fist fight made you a winner and words did hurt. So government and family has fall short of this situation is a main fact. We have first hand seen the behavior of our said leaders go head to head cut throat even in the house of assembly. No different to the real world or ( the streets ) as they call it. Youths have been spiritually poisoned by these examples. Wrong examples at home is the most responsible. We r not perfect so we most give help when we know of special cases or situations speak up come forward with a positive goal for righteousness. Preach positivity for youths

When are were kids, going outside to play and socialize with our friends was a treat, we learn to communicate and resolved issues in a rash fashion, kids of this era stay glued to their devices and befriend individuals they don't know if they pass each other on the street, no real problem and communication skills exist anymore, just who have the bigger gun or who get to Thiers first. BVI is no long a Paradise.
