Training fire officers top on list for new CFO McLean!
Speaking to Virgin Islands News Online, McLean, who is spending his last few days as the Deputy Director in the Department of Disaster Management (DDM), stated that he received his letter of appointment yesterday May 29, 2012.
“It’s a good feeling, and I just have to re-orient and familiarise myself but I am confident that with my 16 years of training in the fire service it will become a reality,” the 44 year-old told this news agency.
During his tenure as a Fire Officer, McLean, a Virgin Islander, worked at the seven fire stations throughout the Virgin Islands (VI).
Expounding on his plans to have officers trained, the newly appointed CFO charged that it will augur well for officers in terms of promotions, as well as, well roundedness
According to him, especially in the Administrative Department, individuals from other departments are seconded there, but he would like to see officers within handle such responsibilities.
“You see once you have officers in that [Admin] department they know how others feel and would be able to know what to do,” he explained.
McLean also envisions a more community friendly fire service and pointed out that strength of the Territory’s fire service is based on the strength of its officers.
Meanwhile, Virgin Islands News Online was reliably informed that a number of Virgin Islanders and individuals overseas applied for the position.
The vacancy, which was advertised since last year by the Department of Human Resources, stated that the salary scale is between $55,772 - $62,688 annually/Grade 16 commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Fire Officer William Penn, who had acted as the CFO prior to McLean’s appointment, will continue to serve as the Deputy.
