VALLEY, Virgin Gorda, VI- Deputy Speaker in the Virgin Islands House of Assembly (HoA), Hon Neville A. Smith (AL) has announced the launch of a series of Talent Extravaganzas throughout the Virgin Islands, with the first held on Virgin Gorda.

Hon Smith said the Virgin Islands is full of talented individuals, many of whom are waiting for the opportunity to display their talent to a crowd. He said this is the reason for the Talent Extravaganzas.

Good turn out for VG edition - Hon Smith

Hon Smith, speaking to Virgin Islands News Online (VINO) today, April 13, 2022, said the talent show was not really a competition, but rather to showcase youth talent. He said the VG edition had a good response and turn out for the inaugural edition of the show.

In a statement, the Deputy Speaker further noted, “The extravaganza is expected to travel across the waters to be held on Anegada, Jost van Dyke and Tortola. Each island will have the opportunity to showcase the talent of our young people through any form of performing art. At the end of each island’s showcase, the extravaganza will ultimately lead to a grand finale called BVI Got Talent.”

Hon Smith noted that at the end of the Extravaganza, performers from every island will be connected to local, regional, or international persons or programmes to further develop their preferred art form and support their endeavors in the performing arts.

Already, the first extravaganza ‘VG Got Talent’, was held on April 10, 2022, as a prelude to the Easter Festivities on the island.

Extravaganza for other islands

Hon Smith noted that the organising committee for the “VG Got Talent”, consisted primarily of residents from Virgin Gorda, who have done an exceptional job in putting the extravaganza together.

“I am extremely proud of them and grateful for their interest and dedication to this project,” he added.

Hon Smith added that as the Extravaganza reaches other islands, the team will be soliciting the assistance of committee members from the respective islands.

He said persons interested in being committee members for the other island can send an email outlining their interest in assisting to nesmith@gov.vg with the subject line: Talent Extravaganza Committee Interest.
