BASSETERRE, ST Kitts, WI- The winds of change have come to the people of the twin island state of the Federation of St Kitts and Nevis.

In the hard fought election watched by people from around the region, the Virgin Islands and the International community, especially Canada and the United States, Team Unity, which is a coalition of three Opposition parties, swept to power in general elections held for the Federal Parliament on February 16, 2015.

Dr The Honourable Timothy S. Harris is expected to be sworn in as Prime Minister later today or tomorrow February 17 or 18, 2015 according to Julian Willock whose company, Advance Marketing and Professional Services, was one of the many political consulting firms and persons retained to help in the election efforts.

Last effort by Dr Douglas to interrupt the election

Dr  Harris will replace the controversial longest serving Prime Minister in the region Dr Denzil L. Douglas who was Prime Minister for 20 years- 1995-2015.

As the election results continued to pour in this morning, there were widespread cheering and jubilation in the streets in the areas where Team Unity picked up seats. Outgoing Prime Minister Douglas was not going down without a fight, as the results came in showing some major defeats for his St Kitts/Nevis Labour Party, according to this news site’s correspondent on the ground, he ordered the Elections Supervisor to stop the count and not release any more results. This is even after many of his Labour candidates had already conceded defeat.

The Government headquarters in Basseterre, the St Kitts capital city, has been blocked off and there seems to be rising tension in St Kitts; however, Nevis appears to be more peaceful, according to our reporter live on site.

Hons Fraser & Harris

Virgin Islands Party Chairman Honourable Julian Fraser RA, (R3) held a meeting with Dr Harris when he visited the Virgin Islands last month on private business.  The three party coalition heading by Team Unity Leader Harris includes the Concerned Citizens Movement (CCM) of Nevis, The People Labour Party (PLP) and the People’s Action Movement (PAM).

Yes, time for NDP to go! GOOOOO Back to HOA for another 4 years! NO to VIP!! We don't want them! Dougie had the same problem that VIP has now, he had no real candidates and behaved like a wild man. People will not support that type of behavior.

LOL, you are the clown if you don't think there is still a attachment to SKB with the BVI. They were all one under the queen once and a lot of families are the same, BVI, SKB and Anguilla. Wake up and smell the coffee ......

I never said there wasn't "an attachment", (not a attachment). But my comment was about Politics, not the queen. Once again, to you and the silly "KITTITIAN" who also commented, what does St. Kitts Politics have to do with Virgin Islands politics? This guy was in power for 20 years. We've been flipping leaders since about 2003. So I don't see how this reflects the political climate here... Politicians all around the world promise stuff. What's new??

The people of St Kitts and Nevi are not afraid to make changes. Sometimes we seem to get too comfortable with what we have and refuse to change. Now they will get a chance to see if new leadership will improve the country.

What does building 2 cruise ship docks has to do with anything. As a voter I looked at the overall development of the country and the fact that THREE of Douglas MPs left is party one being his Deputy. That shows that his dictatorship style of leader stank!

To the VIP bloggers talking about the wind of change. The people of St Kitts actually had options as it relates to competent and worthy candidates to choose from, apart from those on the Government side. Who will VIP bring to beat NDP? A bunch of dead horses coming off pasture, trying to keep up with the thoroughbreds?

Most of the things like the port was started by Simmonds so when Douglas got into power he had to finish them as part of the continued progress. All the DDD had to do is to take the money from SKB and purchases as many properties for himself friends and families. Remember Bradshaw aquired the lands,Simmonds paid for the lands and Douglas sold the same.I have faith in team Unity and let's wait to see how they deliver. It is gonna be a bit rough at the start especially with the debt by IMF,accountability of several funds e.g.the SIDF and many more. Who knows many persons may get a big lock up in the HMP

Congratulations to the incoming Prime Minister and his team. I do not know about the politics in SKN but if it is anything like the one in Grenada or Trinidad then the PM and his team have a whole long, rough road ahead. The objective to make a change beginning with the leadership was achieved but there are many more objectives including: uniting the constituents of both sides, ensuring that all members of Team Unity are on the same page so as to avoid fall-outs and chaos, creation of economic activity, amongst a whole long list.

Be cautious and keep your eyes on the prize - the enhancement of the people of SKN

Renewal is always good, whether it be change of Government or change of leadership in an organization or company.

No one individual or group of individuals has a monopoly on ideas and ability to lead.

    Let the healing begin!

Former PM Douglas should follow the example of P.J. Patterson of Jamaica and step aside gracefully.

Congrats to to nation and people of St. Kitts and Nevis in escaping what could have seen much blood shed. Hopefully lessons will be learned to help ensure such is never repeated. It is time for technology to be untilized which would eliminate spoiled ballots and speed up the process. Hopefully all of CARICOM will learn this lesson
