Time to say goodbye to the Tory Party
“Its time to say goodbye”- Andrea Bocelli
Within less than two months, Prime Minister Mary Elizabeth Truss aka Liz Truss has sealed not only her own fate but the future of the Conservative Party. Due to immense public pressure, she fired Kwasi A.A. Kwarteng as her chancellor on October 14, 2022. Then on October 19, her Home Secretary Sue-Ellen C. Braverman aka Suella resigned.
By October 20 the writing was clearly on the wall that the people of the United Kingdom wanted to see the backside of Ms Truss. As the saying goes, “She was in office but not in charge.”
With most, if not all, of the items in her mini-budget now scrapped and not one but two new ministers from the Boris Johnson era now in her cabinet, it was evident that Liz truss was no longer really calling the shots.
So, after a mere 45 days in office, the inevitable happened with an announcement of her resignation as leader of the Conservatives and Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. Suffice it to say most people were only shocked that it took so long.
Let's go back in time for a minute.
During the debates for Party Leader, it was clear to anyone that Liz Truss was out of her depth with most issues of concern to the people of the United Kingdom. Yet, Tory voters gave her their support by a margin of Sixty per cent of the vote. If it was not based on ability, then what was it based on?
I think we know the answer.
Fast forward to the post-Truss era, the Conservative party now has to find yet another leader, the third within the last 3 months. It does not take a rocket scientist to see that it is only a matter of time before that party itself descends into irreversible self-inflicted damage.
At the same time, the Labour party is gaining more and more support for their ideas and the stands they have taken for the working class populations as of late. Sir Keir R. Starmer needs only play his cards right for the next few months, and he will have a wave of support heading his way.
For the Tories, there is no u-turn that will save their skin. Indeed, it is time to say goodbye.
