Thousands turned out for Kyron A. McMaster watch parties
The biggest gathering was at the Rena’s Festiville in Road Town, the capital city, to see Mr. McMaster as he competed in the Men’s 400M Hurdles Finals at Stade de France on Friday, August 9, 2024.
Many residents, politicians, captains of industries and ordinary persons came out in droves to show their support, national pride and the spirit of unity. On hand was also Premier and Minister of Finance Dr the Hon Natalio D. Wheatley (R7).
McMaster, who is struggling with an injury, still managed to run 47.79 seconds for 5th place.
The race was won by American Rai Benjamin in 46.46 seconds. Second was the defending champion and World Record Holder Karsten Warholm of Norway in a time of 47.06 seconds.
Mr. McMaster is the first Virgin Islander to come so close to winning an Olympic medal.
