This Week We Feature Young Professional Tecora L. Morgan
Undoubtedly no stranger to the limelight, our Young Professional of the Week remains on a high after being successful in capturing the crown of one of the most prestigious contests in the Virgin Islands – the Miss Virgin Gorda Pageant.
Virgin Islands News Online proudly presents this week’s Young Professional Tecora L. Morgan, a pageant queen, hair stylist and budding scientist among several other things.
At seventeen, Tecora is already a veteran of several pageant contests, including the Prince and Princess and Miss Teen Virgin Gorda pageants and quite easily projects the confidence that comes along with being a winner.
She credits her abundant self-confidence, poise, stage presence and dedication as being partially responsible for leading her to the crown in the recently concluded Miss Virgin Gorda pageant.
Tecora also acknowledged the incredible support she received from family members, friends and quite a few strangers in capturing the Miss Virgin Gorda Title. “I have had lots of support and I still have lots of support,” she related.
A past student of the Assemblies of God Cornerstone School and Bregado Flax Educational Centre, Tecora is now in her first year at the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College (HLSCC) where she is pursuing studies in Natural Sciences with a view to becoming a Forensic Scientist.
Her current platform in pageantry allows her to align her focus squarely on education, particularly among the youths and Tecora has seized the opportunity to try to get young people to become more involved within their respective communities. She is also keen on influencing girls of her age group to enter the world of pageantry so that they might be able to benefit just as she has.
Our Young Professional is very big on performing arts and happens to be an avid singer and also likes to dance as well. She is currently a member of the popular Virgin Gorda based Adajio Dance Group.
Not surprisingly, her all round talents have also seen her take to the field to play one of the world’s most popular sports – soccer.
Tecora has also managed over the years to transform her interest in hair styling into something of temporary job as when she is not busy studying or at play, she busies herself working part time at a hair salon. Working at 'A Cut Above' in Virgin Gorda, she gets the opportunity to weave her magic styling and braiding the hair of customers that grace the establishment.
Our Young Professional also hopes to one day own her own salon that will allow her to continue helping to make people beautiful.
She has already set her sights on a three year stint at a University in the United Kingdom to continue her education following her term at HLSCC and said she plans to major in Forensic Science when she gets there.
The plan, according to Tecora, is to return to Virgin Gorda to become one of the island’s very own Forensic Scientists.
Tecora advises youths to remain focused and keep their head on in whatever they choose to do in pursuing their goals. “Don’t let anything distract you from reaching your goal,” she stated, “anything you want to do, you put your mind to it and put your best foot forward and do it and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.”
