This Week We Feature Young Professional Judy C. Ollivierre
A Christian and a firm believer in making dreams come through; this Week’s Young Professional is today living the realisation of hard work, belief and faith in realising her dream of one day owning her own business - a beauty salon.
Judy C. Ollivierre is attended the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College (HLSCC) where she received an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration before obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance at the Florida International University (FIU) in 2011.
Our Young Professional functions as an Internal Auditor within the Internal Audit Department of the Government of the Virgin Islands and said though it is challenging to run a business simultaneously with her day job, it is something she works hard at making a success.
Diva Hair Salon, Beauty Supply & Accessories Bar opened its doors at Drakes Place along the Sir Walter Francis Drive in Purcell Estate a short while ago and Judy hasn’t looked back since.
“Ever since I’ve been a little girl, I’ve always been into hair,” Judy related, “I knew I always wanted to either be a hairdresser or own a salon.”
Judy explained that she told her mother once she had completed her Bachelor’s Degree she wanted to open her own salon and began the process immediately upon her return from Florida.
“I had a vision to open this salon and as the days went by, the vision grew,” she said while disclosing that she had initially only wanted to open a salon. Instead, she has now been able to expand her dream to include a beauty supply and accessories section to her business.
According to Judy, Diva is not just a regular hair salon since it has a special children’s room, a nail room and a special VIP room as well. She made the decision of including the children’s room based on her experiences of being at other salons and witnessing children being brought along with their parents to have their hair done.
At the salon, she offers services for hair such as wash, style, relaxer, weaves, braids, locks, colour and cuts while in her nail room, persons can have manicures, pedicures, full set (gel & acrylic), nail art, and airbrush designs in addition to polished hands and feet.
“Diva Hair Boutique,” Judy said, “was designed to showcase our line of luxury hair extensions - "Diva Luxury Hair Extensions" and these extensions are 100 percent Virgin Human Hair which comes from the country of origin.” The boutique currently provides customers with Indian and Brazilian Virgin Human Hair in a variety of lengths and textures.
Her accessories bar is a small yet unique section in the retail store that comprises of costume jewellery, hats, bags and other items to accentuate any outfit, she said.
Judy said her business is something that she is very passionate about and expects to see it grow and blossom one day into a greater expansion. She hopes to one day see the inclusion of a full blown spa which offers massages, facials and other similar services at some point.
For young persons who one day hope to open their own business, Judy said it is important to not let anyone deter them from their dreams. “Now is the time to let your dreams become a reality; if you think finances is a problem, don’t worry about it as it will come once you start. You just have to trust and believe in God and he will go above and beyond what you ask of Him,” she advised.
Persons who wish to enter the beauty industry are advised by Judy to seek out such a great venture since she said everyone wants to look good and to feel good.
She said the beauty industry is not something to be looked down upon as mediocre in favour of a desk job since it offers just as many opportunities as other jobs might and allows one to even meet with celebrities and expand their horizons further than they had initially imagined. Judy ended by saying she felt scholarships should also be given to persons who are interested in entering this field.

Nice legs! what a stunner!
Winning combination. As a dude who does get his hair wash and plait at a salon all the time I HATE to have to hear people arguing and calling and getting on with kids who ain't got nothing to do and want to run up and down the place. Genius. Gah check it out when it operational.
