This Week We Feature Young Professional Geromy O. Boynes
Young Professional Geromy O. Boynes is a 25-year-old entrepreneur currently at the forefront of his family’s business, Boynes Taekwondo Academy, where he teaches kids and adults the art of Taekwondo.
Early Beginning
Currently living on Tortola in the Virgin Islands, Geromy said he also lived in Las Vegas, Nevada. He attended Althea Scatliffe Primary School where he graduated in 2012, and moved on to Elmore Stoutt High School for a year before moving back to Las Vegas to graduate from Cimarron-Memorial High.
At Boynes Taekwondo Academy, Geromy teaches Olympic-style taekwondo and is currently certified worldwide.
“I teach kicking and footwork and [I] am the head coach for sparring and competing. What I enjoy most is showing someone who didn’t think they could achieve something that they can. It’s all mental,” he said.
Geromy added that some of the challenges of the job include the need to have patience and no expectations and as a teacher, he said that also poses a challenge since students learn at different paces.
Life Lessons
Speaking about life lessons, Geromy said his biggest life lesson is understanding there is no such thing as failure, “It all is lessons and it is what helps shape you,” he said.
Geromy credits his parents for his interest in teaching martial arts.
“My parents put me into this field when I was five. I just never stopped. I held many jobs but I chose music as my career out of college in between Taekwondo,” he further added.
Geromy said with regard to seeing his family’s company grow, he wants to have billboards establishing the brand along with the opening of more business locations.
He added that in life, people will always face challenges when it comes to funding but the best thing is to be clear in what you need.
“My family keeps me focused on my purpose. I see myself as the best producer and being creative when it comes to my profession, as well as one of the best Taekwondo teachers known in Tortola,” he added.
Parting advice
To youths pursuing a passion, Geromy encouraged them to chase their dreams and be true to themselves.
“Do what you love and don’t fall in line with the normal. Shake it up. If you are following your dreams and passions, do your research and trust what you learn. Apply what you learn and shine,” he further added.
